Subway Series 2025 Is Underway and Should be Great

The Subway Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets is most likely the most anticipated edition in history. The Yankees won the first game of the Subway Series 4-2. It was thought that this Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets would be somewhat less important due to the balanced schedule, where all teams play all other teams, regardless of league, the same number of times. This Subway Series, however, has added interest because Yankees slugger Juan Soto signed with the Mets in the offseason. Do you think Juan Soto spurned the Yankees?

Lineups For Subway Series

The New York Mets had Francisco Lindor as the shortstop and batting leadoff. Juan Soto was the right fielder and batted second. Pete Alonso was the first baseman and batted third. Mark Vientos was the third baseman and was batting fourth. Brandon Nimmo was the left fielder, batting fifth. Starling Marte was the designated hitter and batted sixth. Francisco Alverez was the catcher and batted seventh.

Luisangel Acuna was the second baseman and batted eighth. Brett Baty pinch-hit for him in the ninth inning. His brother is the superstar Braves player Ronald Acuna Jr. Tyrone Taylor was the center fielder and batted ninth. Jeff McNeill came in for him in the ninth inning. 

For the Yankees, in the Subway series, Trent Grisham batted first and was the center fielder. Aaron Judge was the right fielder and batted second. Cody Bellinger batted third and was the left fielder. Paul Goldschmidt was the first baseman and batted fourth. Jasson Dominguez was the designated hitter, batting fifth. Anthony Volpe was the shortstop and batted sixth.  Austin Wells was the catcher and batted seventh. Oswald Peraza was the third baseman, batting eighth. Jorbit Vivas played second base and batted ninth. 

Scoring Summary

In the third inning, Goldschmidt singled, scoring Vivas and Judge. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead. Volpe then hit a sacrifice fly and Goldschmidt scored. That gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead. Then Peraza walked with the bases loaded. Goldschmidt scored, and it was 4-0 Yankees.

In the fourth Inning, Nimmo singled and Soto scored. That cut the lead to 4-1. Also in the fourth inning, Goldschmidt singled and Judge scored. That made it 5-1 Yankees. Later that inning, Dominguez grounded into a force out, and Bellinger scored. That made it 6-1 Yankees. In the ninth inning, Lindor doubled and Alvarez scored. That made it 6-2 Yankees.

Game Notes

The weather was important again because this game took place outdoors in The Bronx. At game time, it was 68 degrees and overcast. There was a threat of rain. The Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets is part of Major League Baseball’s rivalry weekend.

Jonathan Loaisiga was back in the bullpen for the New York Yankees. The Yankees want to see how he responds to pitching in the big leagues. He replaced Carlos Rodon in the sixth inning. It was interesting to see Soto play in The Bronx against the Yankees.

Conclusion

The Yankees and the Mets play again tomorrow afternoon. The famed day game after a night game, expect both teams to start backups, especially at catcher. Of note, the Yankees and the Mets play again on Sunday night. It is the primetime ESPN game. It was important for the Yankees to start this series off on the right foot. The Mets pitcher for this series are all punching above their weight. There was a strong argument to be made that the Mets were going to win all three games in this series. However, the Yankees won the first game.
