Former Yankee JP Sears Pitches 5 Strong Innings, Athletics Hang On To Beat New York
Sears, the former Yankee, was outstanding as the Oakland Athletics beat the Yankees 11-6. His old bug-a-boo, home runs hurt Carlos Rodon, as he gave up 2 and struck out 10. J. P. Seares gave up a home run, too, to Aaron Judge. So, the Athletics tied the series at one game each, with the rubber game to be played tomorrow. With an eighth-inning lead, the Athletics brought in closer Mason Miller. Does anyone pitch harder than Mason Miller?

This was right after the A’s took J. P. Sears is out of the game. In the sixth inning, Aaron Judge hit a mammoth home run off the batter’s eye in center field. His 14th home run drew the Yankees to within two runs at 4-2. A sacrifice fly from Austin Wells drove in Cody Bellinger. That cut the Yankees’ lead to 4-3. Game Notes
- The weather was hot for this game. At game time, it was 88 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny. There was no chance of rain.
- The Oakland Athletics have won the last 4 starts by J.P. Sears.Â
- Lemehieau may now play in Seattle, where the Yankees play next. His return and the corresponding roster move are imminent.
- This was not the marquis pitching matchup expected, as Carlos Rodon was a bit of a letdown against J.P. Sears.
- Carlos Rodon did have 10 strikeouts as he regained the American League lead in strikeouts with 67. He is second to MacKensie Gore who has 68.
- Aaron Judge treated J.P. Sears and his family to dinner when Sears broke into the major leagues. Judge wore pink cleats and batting gloves today for Mother’s Day. That is odd because Aaron Judge is adopted.
- This is the second series this season that the Yankees have played in a minor league stdium. The other was at the Tampa Bay Rays, in the Yankees’ spring traing home.
- The fact that the New York Yankees came all the way back to take the lead in the sixth inning meant J. P. Sears was not going to get his first-ever win agaist the Yankees today.
Conclusion
This was a bit of a dissapointment for the Yankees coming off their big 10-2 win last night. The Yankees put up a five spot in the sixth inning, that was a continuation of last night’s good vibes, but the Yankees bullpen gave away the game. Yankee starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was outdueled by Oakland starter J.P. Sears, who pitched five innings allowing only one run.
