Novak Djokovic: 3 Historic Milestones He Can Achieve In 2025
Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic couldn’t win a match to save his life at the moment. Things looked so good for him earlier in the season when he reached the Australian Open semifinals and the Miami Open finals. However, he remains without an ATP title for the entire season. An even more damning stat is that the Serb is yet to win an ATP match on clay courts this season.
Djokovic is most likely going into Roland Garros without a single clay-court match win. It remains to be seen if he takes a wildcard in some event, like he did in Geneva last year. But for now, Djokovic is playing for the history books, and he can make more history in 2025. Here are the three things he can achieve this year.
3. Most US Open Titles (Equal)
Novak Djokovic currently has four US Open titles, which is extremely surprising considering his sublime record at the Australian Open, which includes 10 titles. The difference is alarming, as he has won 10 titles in 10 finals in Melbourne but only four titles in 10 finals in New York. However, he can return some good memories to Flushing Meadows and bag a fifth title.
If Novak Djokovic wins a fifth US Open title, it will equal him with the likes of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras. Federer was the last man to defend the US Open title in 2008. The Serb had the chance to join the Swiss in the US Open title defense last year, but lost to Alexei Popyrin in four sets. Now, he has a chance to equal the 20-time Grand Slam in Flushing Meadows.
2. 100 career titles
This achievement is something that Djokovic has been chasing since winning the Olympic Gold medal last year. The Serb beat Carlos Alcaraz to complete the set and win his 99th career title. However, he has been stuck at that number since August. He has come close at the Shanghai Masters and Miami Masters, where he reached the finals. However, he lost to Jannik Sinner and Jakub Mensik, respectively.
Novak Djokovic has the chance to get to that milestone for the entire season. It remains to be seen if he wants to make that number iconic with a Grand Slam title win or with a small ATP title win. The Serb has hinted that he would love for his 100th title to be a Grand Slam title. That Grand Slam title would also be his 25th Grand Slam title, putting him above Margaret Court.
1. Most Wimbledon titles (Combined)
Speaking of Grand Slam titles, there is one obvious record that Novak Djokovic would have in his mind. The Serb has come close to tying Roger Federer’s record for most Wimbledon titles for a couple of seasons. However, he has fallen short against Alcaraz in the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon finals. The 2023 Wimbledon final is considered one of the greatest matches in history, which saw the Spaniard dethrone four-time defending champion Djokovic in five sets.
Now, the situation is different as Alcaraz is struggling with fitness. If Novak Djokovic can collect some wins until Wimbledon and put on a run, there is no reason why he cannot believe in himself to go all the way this time. He is, after all, a seven-time Wimbledon champion and knows what it takes to play well on the biggest stages.
