Texas Rangers Fire Hitting Coach Donnie Ecker
The Texas Rangers fired Hitting Coach Donnie Ecker on Sunday following the team’s 8-1 victory at home against the Seattle Mariners. Part of the statement said: “…now is the appropriate time to provide our hitters with a new voice as we pursue goals of winning the division and reaching the postseason…” The Rangers did not immediately address who would take over for Ecker. Ecker was hired on November 1, 2021. Will a new voice help jump start the offense?
Texas Rangers Struggle On Offense
Even though the Texas Rangers had a strong day at the plate Sunday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners, Ecker’s constant struggles with the team at the plate led to his dismissal. The Rangers have not been good at the plate this season. They are 25th in batting average, 19th in runs scored, and 29th in runs scored.
This move was so pressing because the team has one of the league’s best pitching staffs. They are seventh in ERA, fifth in WHIP, and ninth in opposing batting average. Texas needed its offense to catch up with its pitching staff before the season got away from them.
Final Thoughts
The Rangers return to the diamond on Tuesday on the road against the Boston Red Sox. Texas entered the regular season with lofty expectations, and their performance at the plate was not up to their standards. There is still time for the team to improve its offense as they look to reach their full potential.
