Carlos Alcaraz Gives Huge Injury Update Ahead Of Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz was almost set to miss the final Masters 1000 tournament on clay this season at the Italian Open. The Spaniard recently missed the Madrid Open after enduring a groin injury during the Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune. After that, his preparations for Roland Garros were under a cloud. However, positive vibes are coming from the camp of the former World No. 1.
There are reports that Alcaraz was seen back on the tennis court alongside his Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. Christopher Boudames, who had a chance to meet his idol at the Ferrero Tennis Academy, posted the footage on Instagram. Alcaraz has not yet provided any update about his participation in the Italian Open.
Carlos Alcaraz’s Injury: What Do We Know So Far?
Alcaraz started the 2025 clay season in breathtaking form. The former World No .1 won his sixth career Masters 1000 title at Monte Carlo and looked set to bring some winning momentum. However, Rune stopped him at the Barcelona Open final. At the end of the first set, Alcaraz was seen holding his hamstring and took a medical timeout. Despite continuing the match, his movement looked hampered as he lost the final 7-6, 6-2.
Eventually, he had to undergo an MRI on his hamstring. The results weren’t satisfactory, and he had to withdraw from the Madrid Open, a tournament he had won two times. The Spaniard has once again had a hampered clay season like in 2024. Last year, he had sustained an elbow injury before the start of the clay season that continued to be a problem until Roland Garros. Eventually, he recovered his form to win his third career Grand Slam title on the Paris dirt.
Final Thoughts
Alcaraz hopes to return to full competitive form at this year’s Roland Garros. The Spaniard is the defending champion at this year’s French Open and needs to be fully fit to sustain a chance at the French capital against the likes of Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Roland Garros is still far away, but his return to the courts before the Italian Open is a massive positive.
