Jazz Chisholm Placed On 10-Day IL After Terrible Start
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been horrible for the Yankees this season. He was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Wednesday). This occurred three days after exiting the Yankees’ 15-3 win over the Orioles on Tuesday with what was termed as “flank discomfort.” He went on the injured list with a right oblique strain. In a matching roster move the Yankees recalled Infielder Jorbit Vivas from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Do you think an injured list stint will be good for Chisholm Jr.?
Chisholm Placed On 10-Day Injured List
Chisholm Jr. was injured on a first-inning foul ball, grimacing and reaching for his left side after fouling off the first pitch of his at-bat against Kyle Gibson, which led to a short examination from Yankee Manager Aaron Boone and Assistant Athletic Trainer Alfonso Malaguti. Though Chisholm remained in the game to double, advancing to third base on an error. He was swiftly replaced by pinch-runner Oswald Peraza.
Chisholm’s trip to the injured list could mean more time at second base for Oswaldo Cabrera, who is the Yankees’ de facto third baseman with the injury to DJ LeMahieu, Peraza, or Pablo Reyes. Peraza, in particular, deserves more playing time. Maybe he will get it now. Vivas, who was recalled from AAA Scranton in a corresponding roster move, has hit well in the minors. He is batting .319 and slugging .426 in 26 games and is the team’s No. 19 prospect.
Chisholm Has Been Bad This Season
The Yankees had high hopes for him after a productive 2024, but Chisholm Jr. has struggled for the Yankees this year. He has good power numbers with 7 home runs but is batting only .181 and is near the top of the list in strikeouts, He has played fairly well at second base, his natural position, but has suffered a few defensive lapses. His power numbers have been aided by the torpedo bats, but he has mostly been negative in the lineup.
Not Concerned
“I’m not as concerned as everybody else,” he said Tuesday. “I feel pretty good. I’ve torn my oblique before, so I know it’s not like torn or anything. I can cough without any pain or anything like that. It’s just to be cautious and not try to overdo it.” That said, Yankee fans hope this time on the injured list will serve as a reset for him and an opportunity for some deserving players. Oblique injuries can be tricky.
Conclusion
The Yankees placed Chisholm Jr. on the 10-Day Injured List and recalled Vivas from AAA Scranton. Yankees fans hope this injured list stint for Chisholm, who has been bad for the Yankees this year, will be an opportunity for some deserving players and will serve to reset him. Already, we can see, Vivas is in the starting lineup tonight. He will make his major league debut.
