New York Yankees Right Fielder Aaron Judge Off To Tremendous Start
New York Yankees Right Fielder Aaron Judge has been spectacular to begin the 2025 regular season. Coming off an American League MVP campaign, he has been even better this year. He is leading the league in batting average, tied for the league lead in home runs and RBI, and has the best OPS in the sport.
He is the only player in the designated hitter era (since 1973) to lead the AL in all three Triple Crown categories entering May. Before 2025, no AL player had ever collected 50 hits in a season before May. Neither had an AL player reached base 70 times before May, nor amassed 85 total bases before May. Judge did all three this year. Will Judge be able to keep up his historic start for a New York Yankees team with championship aspirations?
New York Yankees Season Summary
New York leads the American League East with an 18-13 record. Paced by Judge’s historic start, New York’s offense is one of the league’s best. They lead the league in batting average, and home runs, and are second in runs scored. While Judge has been tremendous, First Baseman Paul Goldschmidt is second in the league in batting average.
The Yankees have a strong pitching staff. They are 11th in batting average, fourth in strikeouts, and the leader in opposing batting average. The unit has had to overcome a season-ending injury to Gerrit Cole. Closer Devin Williams has also been horrendous. His issues led to the team removing Williams from his closer role last week.
Final Thoughts
Judge and the New York Yankees return to the diamond tomorrow night at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. If Judge can maintain his level of play, another American League MVP is within his grasp.
