Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi knocked out of Champions League
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still playing football in the year 2025. This is the time when the football world doesn’t even see those two giants in European football. However, they are still finding ways to remain competitive at Al Nassr and Inter Miami respectively. But when those two lose, it genuinely gives a vibe that it might be the last time we see either of them on the football pitch.
In the AFC Champions League yesterday, both Al Nassr and Inter Miami crashed out, which means that the competition will be without Ronaldo and Messi. As a result, many fans and pundits are calling it the end of an era. The duo has a rich history of over two decades, but everyone has an expiration date. It seems to be getting close with these two generational footballers.
What Happened To Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr?
The evening started with Al Nassr taking on Japan J-League side Kawasaki in the AFC Champions League. Despite the match going until the end, the Japanese side eventually came out victorious 3-2. Ronaldo had plenty of good chances to level the tie, especially at the end. However, it was not the day for the 40-year-old Portuguese.
Al Nassr had a team of stars like Sadio Mane and Jhon Duran. However, it went until the final five minutes, when Ronaldo couldn’t convert a chance from five yards. Mane and Tatsuya Ito provided consolation goals for the Saudi Arabian giants. After the final whistle, Ronaldo was seen having a tearful conversation with himself about the last chance.
What Happened To Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami?
If Ronaldo’s day was bad, Messi‘s day was worse. Inter Miami was sent packing by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Concacaf semifinal clash. David Beckham‘s team was already down 2-0 from the first leg but all they could do was worsen the aggregate score to 7-1 on full time across both legs.
Meanwhile, the Whitecaps will face either Cruz Azul or Tigres. After the first leg, these two Mexican sides were locked at 1-1. Messi was nothing more than a passenger in the entire game as his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba grabbed the only goal for Inter Miami.
