Teoscar Hernández Swats the Ball For 4 Hits, 4 RBI
The Los Angeles Dodgers routed the Miami Marlins 15-2 Tuesday night at Chavez Ravine. Right in the middle of the offensive explosion was Teoscar Hernández with four hits and four RBI. He has been a consistent threat at the plate all year and is leading the league with 31 RBI, two more than power icon Aaron Judge.
Hernández’s Big Night at the Plate
Teo had a massive day at the plate, going 4-of-5, with four RBI, and two runs scored to help the Dodgers reach their 20th win of the season. Entering the game, he has hit safely in seven straight games, garnering a .333 batting three doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored, and 10 RBI over that stretch.
In the 1st inning on Tuesday, after a leadoff home run from Shohei Ohtani and a double from Freddie Freeman, Hernández laced a 97 mph heater from Sandy Alcantara to center field. Dane Meyers made a diving catch attempt, but it bounced off his glove and allowed Teo a hustle double, scoring Freeman. He came in to score on a Tommy Edman sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the 2nd, he roped another double, this time down the left field line. Left Fielder Javier Sanoja cut the ball off with a nice slide, preventing it from getting to the wall, but Hernández rumbled into second with his second double of the game, scoring Ohtani.
Hernandez made it safely to first in unconventional fashion in the 6th inning, reaching on catcher interference by Agustín Ramírez. He then scored on a two-run double from Edman. He ended his night with back-to-back RBI singles in the 7th and 8th innings, respectively. Kiké Hernández, the utility extraordinaire, closed out the game for the Dodgers.
Can Teo Keep It Up?
Hernández took a chance on himself last year, signing a one-year deal with the Dodgers, providing the biggest offensive season of his career. He helped the team win its 8th World Series title. To reward him, the Dodgers re-signed Teo for three years, $66 million, and are already getting their money’s worth. The National League West is an absolute gauntlet this year but the Dodgers are a game up in first place, sitting at 20-10.
