Matchup For 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game Announced
Earlier today the matchup for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game was announced. The game will be between the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers on July 31. It will kick off the 2025 Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week. The 2025 class will officially be inducted on Sunday, August 2, 2025. The Lions last played in the game in 1991. Los Angeles last participated in 1994.Â
“This game features two teams that can be considered legitimate contenders to reach Super Bowl LX next February,” Jim Porter, president and CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “For them to face each other right out of the gate in Canton, Ohio, should create a dynamic opening to another spectacular NFL season.”
During Super Bowl week in New Orleans, four more men got the call they would be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Antonio Gates, and Sterling Sharpe are in the 2025 class. Will this game be the start of great seasons for the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers?

Last year’s Hall of Fame Game was between the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears. While no star players should be expected to suit up, it is an honor for these Super Bowl hopefuls to officially kick off the 2025 NFL season. While there is no link between this game and regular season/postseason success, it is exciting for these teams to play in front of a national audience on a special weekend for the league.
Final Thoughts
This is a dream matchup for the 2025 Hall of Fame Game. Even though the Lions and Chargers had disappointing playoff runs, they should be just as good in 2025. This game will also feature two of the more entertaining coaches in the league, Jim Harbaugh and Dan Campbell. These men are sure to provide some great soundbites during the game.
