Denver Broncos Trading For Ashton Jeanty On Day 1 Of NFL Draft
We are looking into our crystal ball, and boy, oh boy, it has us believing the Denver Broncos will be trading up to get a star running back in Ashton Jeanty. We will dive into why this makes the most logical sense for the Denver Broncos and why this will ultimately be the best fit for this talented running back. Sit back and relax as we dive head first into this bold prediction.
Denver Broncos Draft Day Needs
The Denver Broncos will enter draft day with the No. 20 overall pick. While there is plenty of talent to choose from at this position in the draft, let’s take a look at what the Denver Broncos need. Last year the Denver Broncos made a smart decision and finally decided to draft Quarterback Bo Nix instead of trying to make a trade for one. We all remember the disaster of Russell Wilson.
This led the Broncos to be a dark horse contender and make a surprise playoff appearance that fell short due to one main thing. No running game. With the offseason moves of sending Javonte Williams to the Dallas Cowboys, this makes logical sense that the Denver Broncos are looking to fill a big need at running back. Who better to fill it than the best name in the 2025 draft class of Jeanty?
Who Is Ashton Jeanty?
Jeanty, the Boise State Bronco running back, had a great year, to put it mildly. 2,600+ rushing yards, and 29 touchdowns. That was only Jeanty’s 2024 stats. At 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, he is not so much a bruiser of a running back as an east-west running back. This fits perfectly into the Denver Broncos scheme. The Broncos need a finesse runner behind their stout offensive line.
Having a running threat will make Nix even better. That would turn Jeanty into a versatile weapon. Having a young budding running back alongside a developing quarterback will improve both positions under the veteran leadership of Head Coach Sean Payton. Jeanty will be a valuable asset with a great skill set to a team that is in desperate need of a star running back. The move up for Jeanty makes the most sense with all the offseason moves.
Who To Trade With
The first four picks of the draft have far greater needs for their team than an upgrade at running back. The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants all need quarterback help desperately. The New England Patriots need more than one pick to solve their problems. As do the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams can trade back to get more day two picks.
If the Denver Broncos don’t trade up by the time the Las Vegas Raiders get on the clock then they missed the chance of a generation to get a star running back in Jeanty. It will take some wheeling and dealing to make this trade happen. It also might set the Denver Broncos back a year or two depending on exactly what they are giving up. But the trade-off is well worth it for a star back. If the Las Vegas Raiders pass on Jeanty, the Broncos need to strike before the Bears or Cowboys get on the clock. There is a small window but the Broncos can make it happen.
Wrap It Up
The talent in the 2025 draft class is weighted toward pass rushers and the defensive side of the ball. Those are areas the Denver Broncos do not need help in. There will be a bit of negotiating to make this deal happen. The Broncos will need to give up pieces for the next few years. But by adding the caliber of player that the Boise State Bronco brings to this dynamic offense under Nix and Payton. It will be well worth it.
