Rey Fenix to Replace Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 41
Rey Mysterio vs. El Grande Americano was one of the matches scheduled for Night 1 of Wrestlemania 41, but that match has been postponed. Instead, it was announced on the Countdown to Wrestlemania 41 Kickoff Show that Mysterio was not going to be able to compete. Rey Fenix, one of the newest wrestlers in the company, instead will be replacing the WWE Hall of Famer and making his Wrestlemania debut. Let’s take a deeper dive into what we know and what this means going forward.
Rey Fenix Replacing Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio was scheduled to compete at Wrestlemania 41 against El Grande Americano, but that match will have to wait. Mysterio suffered an injury at last night’s WWE Friday Night Smackdown in a six-man tag team match against American Made and appeared to injure his leg, needing help from trainers to get to the training room. It was speculated that the match would be in jeapordy, but instead, there is a replacement in Rey Fenix.
Mysterio would announce this hours before the match is set to take place and this should be an interesting wrinkle into the match itself. This gives Rey Fenix his Wrestlemania debut as he has only wrestled in four matches since debuting in WWE. He has been undefeated in singles action, defeating Nathan Frazer and Berto in one-on-one matches. While there is always a chance that he is eventually paired up with his brother, Penta, down the line, establishing Rey Fenix as a legitimate singles wrestler could do wonders for him in the eyes of the WWE Universe.
It is unclear how long Rey Mysterio will be out of action for as a result of the injury, but seeing Rey Fenix on a stage as grand as Wrestlemania after debuting earlier this month is going to be incredible. With the announcement of WWE purchasing Lucha Libre AAA, there are no shortage of potential incredible opponents for him down the line as well.
