Chicago Cubs Win a 13-11 Thriller Against Arizona Diamondbacks

It was a game to remember Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field between the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks. Chicago prevailed 13-11. It was a quiet game with Arizona leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. Then the offenses came alive to make this game an instant classic.

The Cubs scored five runs in the half-inning. Arizona responded by scoring a whopping 1o runs in the top of the 8th. The Chicago Cubs would not have their offense stifled. They scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th. The Cubs are the 7th team in at least the last 125 seasons to allow 10+ runs in an inning and win. The last team to accomplish this feat was the Cleveland Indians in August of 2006. 16 runs scored in the 8th inning set a record for Wrigley Field. It was the highest-scoring inning in the history of the venue. 

Catcher Carson Kelly led the way with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Left Fielder Ian Happ finished with 4 RBI including a grand slam that got the scoring started for Chicago in the bottom of the 7th. Will Chicago be able to keep their tremendous offensive performance going?

Chicago Cubs Season Summary

The Cubs have gotten off to a surprising start in 2025. They are leading the National League Central with a 13-9 record. Chicago’s offense, as was on display Friday afternoon, has been one of the league’s best. They are fourth in batting average, third in home runs, and the league leader in runs scored by a wide margin. Right Fielder Kyle Tucker and Kelly are third and sixth in the league respectively in RBI.

Chicago’s pitching staff has been the weak point of the ballclub in 2025. They are 24th in ERA, 26th in WHIP, and 26th in opposing batting average. Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Shota Imanaga is 14th in the league with a 2.22 ERA. He has been one of the bright spots for an underachieving pitching staff.

Chicago will look to keep their offensive performance going Saturday afternoon for the middle game of their three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. While it is not feasible for the Cubs to score 13 runs consistently, their offense has the talent to carry the ballclub this year.
