New York Yankees Pitcher Marcus Stroman Offers Blunt Take On 2025 Status
New York Yankees Pitcher Marcus Stroman showed up to camp for the first time today and did not mince words regarding his role for the upcoming season. When asked about his role with the team in 2025 Stroman said: “I’m a starter. I won’t pitch in the bullpen. I’m a starter.” Stroman followed up by saying: “That’s me making the most basic, brief statement. Go look at the numbers. How many people can stay healthy and do it 30+ starts year after year? I’m a starter.”
Stroman was moved to the bullpen during the MLB Playoffs, and while he accepted it then, he will not be willing to do so consistently during the regular season. Stroman is coming over one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024. He finished 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA.
Stroman’s comments led to a response from Yankees Manager Aaron Boone. He was non-committal regarding what Stroman had to say and mentioned the New York Yankees have 10-11 players who could be starters this season. Stroman’s status with the team has been up in the air for much of the offseason. He has been the subject of trade rumors for months. New York had a busy offseason following a World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees have a crowded starting rotation, and Stroman could be the odd man out.
