New Orleans Pelicans Power Forward Zion Williamson returned last night against the Minnesota Timberwolves for his first game in over two months. He missed 27 games with a left hamstring strain. Williamson scored 22 points adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the 104-97 loss and had a few highlight plays. It was a welcome sign that Williamson looked to be in great shape and had explosiveness after a prolonged absence.
Williamson is one of the NBA’s best players but has struggled to remain healthy throughout his professional career. Many of his injuries have had to deal with the star player being consistently out of shape. Hopefully, his latest injury will lead to Williamson keeping himself in better shape and being a consistent performer for the New Orleans Pelicans. Will Williamson’s return to the court help the New Orleans Pelicans get back on track?

It has been a nightmare season for the New Orleans Pelicans. At 7-30, they have the second-worst record in the NBA. The biggest reason for such a disappointing start to the season has been injuries to Williamson and Small Forward Brandon Ingram. Ingram has been sidelined since December 7 with an ankle injury. His return date is unknown at this time.
The New Orleans Pelicans offense has not been good. They are 28th in points scored, 28th in field goal percentage, and 28th in three-pointers made per game. Their defense has also left much to be desired this year. They are 24th in points allowed and 29th in opposing field goal percentage. New Orleans needs to turn things around or they will finish the regular season as one of the league’s worst squads.
Final Thoughts
Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans play the second half of a back-to-back tonight at home against the Portland Trail Blazers. It is unclear if Williamson will play a back-to-back after a two-month absence. Following tonight’s game, New Orleans begins a three-game road trip with games against the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, and Chicago Bulls. Williamson returned from his latest injury showing signs of promise last night. The New Orleans Pelicans desperately need its star player to remain healthy for the remainder of the season.
