New York Giants Take Over Top Pick In 2025 NFL Draft

New York Giants

After a miserable 2024 season, New York Giants fans are celebrating tonight after the previously 2-12 Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. New York, 2-13, is now the only NFL team with two wins on the season and currently holds the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Having a high draft pick is nothing new for the New York Giants as they have missed the NFL Playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons.

The issue that New York has run into when drafting that high is not drafting the right player. When a team is drafting that high, they must draft a home run player. Wide Receiver Malik Nabers and Defensive End Kayvon Thibodeaux seem like quality players while Wide Receiver Kadarius Toney had a miserable tenure with New York. Will the New York Giants finish the season with the No. 1 overall pick and which player will they select at the top of the draft?

Possible Options For the New York Giants

New York has done nothing well in 2024 which is why they currently have the top pick in April’s draft. A few options for New York are Colorado Quarterback Shadeur Sanders, Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, Miami Quarterback Cam Ward, or ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect Abdul Carter. Carter is an Edge out of Penn State

All those options are viable as the New York Giants need a complete roster overhaul as they look ahead to better times in 2025 and beyond. Another option for New York is to trade down in the draft if they do not fall in love with one particular player. This method would allow New York to receive a bevy of draft picks as they look to improve their roster dramatically in one offseason.

Final Thoughts

Another crucial question facing New York this offseason is what they want to do with General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll. After leading New York to the NFL Playoffs in 2022, Daboll has gone 8-23. Co-Owner John Mara must decide if he trusts Daboll and Schoen to make a decision on which player to draft, and if these two men can get the most out of that particular player.

The last two home games have seen fans of the team imploring Mara to both sell the team and fire everyone following the season. After losing 10 straight games, that sentiment is not entirely misguided. New York has looked like a rudderless ship over the last two seasons, and the N0. 1 overall pick could be what the team needs to finally get back on track.
