New York Jets Miss Playoffs Again

New York Jets

The New York Jets played the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium. It was a close game that went into overtime, but eventually, the Miami Dolphins won 32-26. The New York Jets are officially eliminated from the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. This extends the longest active playoff drought across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and WNBA.

Who is to blame in New York? It can’t be all Aaron Rodgers’ fault. Rodgers is the oldest active player in the NFL at 41 years old, but he is not all to blame for the New York Jets promising season that ended up in disaster. The New York Jets would like to end their season and move on from this one since their playoff hopes are torched.

New York Jets Eliminated From Playoffs

The New York Jets came into Sunday’s game against the Dolphins last in the AFC East Division with a record of 3-9. The Miami Dolphins were trying to keep their playoff hopes alive and win against their division rivals. The New York Jets had 402 yards of offense in this game which is the most they have had all season. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had 339 passing yards, was 27-of-39, and added 1 touchdown. Unfortunately, it was not enough to beat the Miami Dolphins, who were victorious with a score of 32-26.

The New York Jets were a long shot at making the playoffs anyway coming into Sunday’s game. They haven’t won a game since mid-September when they beat the New England Patriots and are now tied for last in the AFC East Division with the Patriots. It is unclear of the Jets future since Owner Woody Johnson fired Head Coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas. The New York Jets now are 3-10 on the season and will have to make a decision this offseason whether or not to keep Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Wide Receiver Devante Adams.

New York did have 402 total yards, averaging 6.4 yards per play as things looked to be clicking with the Jets seemingly in control of the contest in the game’s dying minutes. After the game, Rodgers was asked about how it is to miss the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season in a row. Rodgers replied “I’ve started for one year, I’m a part of it for one year. Disappointing.” Meanwhile, the Jets will look and reflect on who is the problem in New York.

Final Thoughts

The New York Jets are officially one of the worst sports teams by having the longest active streak of missing the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. There will need to be some changes happening in New York in the offseason. The Jets will have to continue with the regular season and play better football. The New York Jets could not get to Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and could not score in the red zone as they constantly settled for field goals.

Meanwhile, in Miami, the Dolphins are now 6-7 on the season and are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. Time will tell if the Dolphins can win out in the regular season and finish 10-7. It is doable with the games coming up on their schedule. The Dolphins will play the New York Jets again in the last game of the season in New York. The Miami Dolphins will head to Houston to take on the Texans and the New York Jets will go to Jacksonville to take on the 3-10 Jaguars.
