Philadelphia Eagles Kicker Jake Elliott Continues To Struggle In 2024

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles Kicker Jake Elliott’s woes continued at home this afternoon against the Carolina Panthers. Early in the second half, Elliott missed a 52-yard field goal. He is now 0-of-5 from 50+ yards this season. Elliott is 18-of-24 on field goals this year. Those statistics make him one of the worst starting kickers in the league.

The Philadelphia Eagles went on to defeat the Carolina Panthers 22-16, but Elliott and the rest of the team were not at their best in this game. They trailed multiple times this afternoon including entering the fourth quarter. Philadelphia’s defense came up with a crucial stop to seal the victory. Carolina outgained the Eagles 302-292.

Elliott has been one of the league’s best kickers since his debut in 2017, and placekicking was once a strength of the Philadelphia Eagles. Entering this season, the Eagles kicker was a stellar 70% from on 50+ yard field goals in his NFL career. Will poor kicking hurt the Eagles during the 2024 NFL Playoffs?

Today’s victory brought the Eagles record to 11-2 as they retained the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Quarterback Jalen Hurts did not have his best game as he finished with 108 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Running Back Saquon Barkley finished with 124 rushing yards as his match toward history continued.

Philadelphia has now won nine straight games as they have been statistically one of the league’s best teams this season. They are third in the league in total yards per game, the NFL’s best rushing team, and eighth in the league in points per game. The Eagles defense has also come on strong over the last few months. They are surrendering the fewest yards per game and are fourth in points allowed per game.

Final Thoughts

The Philadelphia Eagles look to extend their winning streak to double figures next week at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Elliott must get back on track in the kicking department to make sure the Eagles are not hamstrung by kicking woes during the most important games of the season.
