Former Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Drew Lock was named the starter for the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants recently granted release for the now former franchise Quarterback Daniel Jones last week. Jones was benched after a 2-8 start and asked for the organization to release him. Can the newly appointed starting QB get the G-Men back on track? Or is it too little too late for the Giants?
Giants Name Lock Starter
Drew Lock signed with the New York Giants in the offseason after being traded to the Seattle Seahawks from the Denver Broncos. Lock was sent to the Seahawks in the Russell Wilson trade to serve as the backup to Geno Smith in Seattle after being in the mix of starters in Denver. Lock was under the impression of being the backup quarterback to “Danny “Dimes” when signing with the Giants. He was visibly frustrated when the team turned to Tommy “Cutlets” DeVito in Week 12 after releasing “Dimes” last week. Rookie Wide Receiver Malik Nabers was quoted “This isn’t a quarterback problem” and that he is sick of losing.
Lock enters the game against division rival Dallas Cowboys and their backup quarterback Cooper Rush on Thanksgiving with 31 career games played. He has over 5,000 career yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. Luckily for Lock, the Cowboys have been in complete turmoil as well, getting blown out in almost every home game this season. Coach Mike McCarthy is in the last year of his contract, and “America’s Team” doesn’t seem to be behind the veteran coach. This will be an opportunity for Lock to showcase his skills on a national stage.
Final Thoughts
The New York Giants may need NYFD assistance because the dumpster fire doesn’t seem to be going out anytime soon. Lock may not be the permanent answer since the team will most likely find their next franchise quarterback at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft. The G-Men have a young core of players they have drafted at the top of previous drafts. This may have been the best thing to happen to Jones. There are only 32 starting spots at the position in the NFL so chances are rare around the league.
This is a great opportunity for Lock to prove he belongs as at least a backup. I can’t wait to see if he is deserving of a Turducken leg on Thanksgiving. Finally, the Lions aren’t the punchline on the Thanksgiving Day game! Have fun watching the Giants and Cowboys.
