Jon Jones had other plans, although Dana White has confirmed that if the winner of UFC 309 wants to fight again, he’ll fight the Canadian fighter. Jon Jones has no desire to fight Tom Aspinall after their controversy. Bones has achieved much through all this time as in his career he has an amazing record of 28-1.
Jon Jones believes he has already accomplished everything MMA offers. So technically this fight has no significant benefit for Jones. Tom Aspinall has the only way to get this fight to happen and that is to hype it up as much as possible which will result in this match being a big-money fight and that’s what Jones is interested in.
Dana White Read For the Fight
During the press conference, Dana White confirmed that Jones will fight Aspinall, so if White is in favor of this fight there will be no option other than doing this fight. This will be a legendary fight and there is no fight in the UFC now that would be better for Jones to take on other than Tom Aspinall.
Jones would have won an incredible 14 title fights against the most powerful and the greatest challengers of all time if he defeated Aspinall too. Even if he ignores him and just retires then he has already defeated two weight classes, and defeated nine former champions which is the hardest record for anyone to break. This has made him feel that he has nothing more to prove at 37 years of age.
Brendan Schaub recently appeared on “The Fighter and The Kid” podcast and expressed his thoughts about this situation. “He doesn’t need to beat Aspinall to be considered the greatest of all time, and that’s the advantage Jon has. He made six million for this. So, I bet he’s going to ask for like 15 to 20 mil. It’ll be the biggest UFC heavyweight title fight of all time.”
Brendan Schaub Sure About the Event
Although people are still not confused whether Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall will happen Brendan Schaub is sure that the fight between them will be a great match and it will surely happen. This will be one of the few fights in which the location or place will not matter but people will be more interested in the fight.
Most importantly the enthusiasm of Dana White about the possible outcome of this heavyweight fight is notable. So the only problem that remains is that Jon Jones wants a good reason to fight Aspinall and wants to have $20-30 million to enter the Octagon.
The post-fight interview was obviously about Tom Aspinall because the fans wanted to see this fight especially and when Jones talked about the wish of the fans it was all clear. When Jones had his victory against Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones did not specifically mention Canadian fighter Tom Aspinall who is currently the Interim weight champion.
Final Thoughts
At last Dana White will do everything to make this fight happen very soon because Tom Aspinall is also in shape. Tom Aspinall also talked to TNT Sports and according to him, Dana is dragging Jones slowly towards the fight. As Tom Aspinall said this in his own words. “I’ll tell you a bit of an exclusive news right here on TNT Sports. I was getting a few nods and winks [from] the bosses when Jon Jones was talking about the next fight. That means a lot to me, and not only that, I spoke to the UFC brass this week.” Jones at last also said that he would engage in the biggest battle after this one.
This fight has to happen in 2025 or else there are a lot of things stopping it from happening but White is not going to let this opportunity slide away and he will go to every extent to make this happen.
