Tom Aspinall has been chasing Jon Jones for months to get him into the Octagon so they can know who the real champion of the Heavyweight Division is. For Aspinall, this fight has been a dream since he earned the Interim Heavyweight Championship in November 2023, But he had to sit idly while Jones squared off against Stipe Miocic for the Heavyweight belt.
On Saturday night at UFC 309, Jones once again demonstrated his dominance and skills to the world even after being severely injured, he made a comeback. Jones won the match with a dominant spinning kick to the lower body of Miocic which knocked him out. The good part was when Jones said that he would give the audience what they wanted. This gave courage to Aspinall because Jones said multiple times that he was going to retire after UFC 309. Tom Aspinall gave an interview after UFC 309 where he seemed optimistic the fight would happen in 2025.
Jon Jones Ready To Fight Tom Aspinall
Jon Jones raised the possibility of fighting with Tom Aspinall, but he stated that the biggest problem is that he would have to come back for the fight if he received a good financial contract. If that did not happen, it would be hard to make this fight happen. Jones would like to have a cozy retirement rather than a low-budget fight.
After the fight, Aspinall was asked about the event, and he said this about his interaction. “Well when Jon Jones was doing his speech, I was looking directly at the UFC brass, Dana White and Hunter Campbell. Both of them turned to me at the same time and pointed at me and winked. At the same time. So to me, that says there’s something big in the pipeline.”

Jones is a great fighter with amazing reaction skills and to dominate him you also need to have quick reaction skills and see everything at the same time. On the other side, as far as Tom Aspinall is concerned, according to him nothing went wrong and he expected this to happen. Usually, people retire around 40, but Stipe stayed until 42 and now is ready to retire too he is grateful that this happened and now he will move on. He seemed very slow and the reason was his age.
