Stephen Curry Gives a 5-Word Response to Klay Thompson

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson faced off last night.

Stephen Curry gave a five-word response to Klay Thompson after the much-anticipated Tuesday night game between the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Curry’s response sparked conversations on various social media platforms — and rightfully so.

Curry is arguably not a man of many words like his fellow teammate Draymond Green, but the 36-year-old appeared to have a reason to troll his former teammate after a close, exciting win on his team’s home court. Off the court, Curry and Thompson — who were widely known as the “Splash Brothers” for their three-pointers — have a brother-like relationship. Read on for Curry’s response and much more.

Stephen Curry’s Response

After Tuesday’s Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks game, Stephen Curry did an NBA on TNT postgame interview and gave a short and sweet five-word response to Klay Thompson. Curry, 36, said of Thompson, 34, “He knows better than that,” referring to Thompson using his signature “shimmy” celebration after hitting a successful three-pointer.

Tuesday’s Warriors vs. Mavericks was just a small sample size of the two teams’ intriguing matchups this season. The two teams will play two more times: the first at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on February 12, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. Central, and the other at the Chase Center in San Francisco on February 23, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. Pacific.

Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors took on Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center. The Warriors’ organization and fans saluted Thompson on “Salute Captain Klay” night with a ceremony and captain hats, a nod to Thompson’s passion for boating and how he would often commute to the arena by boat to play home games.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 37 points, six rebounds, and nine assists in 35 minutes of playing time. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 31 points, eight rebounds, and six rebounds in 41 minutes of playing time. Despite not leading in scoring, Thompson helped the Mavericks’ cause with 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Thompson’s performance was a solid showing in his first game as a visitor at Chase Center.

Curry Sizzles Late

Curry’s success in the Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks game at the Chase Center on Tuesday can be attributed to his sizzling play in the second half. Curry delivered a vintage performance and scored 23 of his season-high 37 points in the second half, as the Warriors have succeeded in using small ball lineups in recent games. All 12 of Curry’s fourth-quarter points came in the final four minutes and erased a six-point deficit for an eventual 120-117 win over the Mavericks.

When asked what he thought as he witnessed Curry’s flurry, Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr responded to the media members, “Good job, Steph (Stephen Curry) … I’ve been watching this for a long time, and it never gets old. It’s incredible watching him. It really is. You just think every shot is going to go in, and he loves it. He loves the moment.”

Coach Kerr’s response to the media was short and sweet, as Curry is one of the most fun players in the NBA to watch. Curry and Klay Thompson’s Splash Brothers era no longer exists, but Curry’s performance on Tuesday vs. Dallas was fun to watch. The arguably best play of the game occurred with 2:30 left in regulation when Draymond Green set a screen to free Curry from Luka Doncic’s side. Daniel Gafford tried to close out on Curry, but Curry’s 28-foot three-pointer went into the net.
