Game Recap: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Los Angeles Clippers

Paul George

The Philadelphia 76ers struggled against the Los Angeles Clippers. Philadelphia’s third quarter performance defined the game’s outcome. After a competitive first half, the Clippers dominated the Sixers’ defense in the second half. Thus, what happened to the 76ers in the third quarter?

The First and Second Half Of the Game

The Philadelphia 76ers started the first quarter on a strong note, as James Harden was having a poor shooting night. The second quarter saw the Los Angeles Clippers picking up momentum to equalize the game at the end of the first half 51-51. Paul George finished with 12 points and five rebounds, shooting 100% from the field. Also, Norman Powell made 15 points to help tie the lead.

The second half of the game was bizarre for the Philadelphia 76ers. The team scored only 17 points in the third quarter while the Clippers scored 33. This performance led to the Clippers leading by more than 10 points in the third quarter. Also, the Sixers’ attempt to come back in the fourth quarter was futile.

The game ended with the Los Angeles Clippers being victorious. The Clippers finished the game with a 12-point margin against the Sixers 110-98. Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr. finished with 18 points as the top performers. Also, Norman Powell notched 26 points and six assists with top-notch shooting efficiency from the field and deep.

What Happened In the Philadelphia 76ers 3rd Quarter

The Philadelphia 76ers offense disappeared in the third quarter. The highlight of the team’s weak offense was Caleb Martin. Martin finished with 14 points, going 5-for-10 from the free-throw line. This performance cost the team crucial points in the second half.

The Philadelphia 76ers struggled to make shots from deep against the Clippers. The team went 7-for-25 from downtown. On the other hand, Powell’s attempt from deep kept cooking the Sixers team. Maxey’s effort from deep fell short with him making only one of his six attempts. Kyle Lowry played for 20 minutes off the bench and made 0-of-3 attempts from the field and three-point position. This is why Head Coach Nick Nurse needs to put more young players on the court. Caleb Martin, who was 41% from deep at the Miami Heat, couldn’t convert his shots from deep.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ rotation failed them again. This time, Guerschon Yabusele, who had a breakout night against the Phoenix Suns, got fewer minutes on the court. Also, he played the center position. Nick Nurse isn’t using Yabusele’s offensive skill as a power forward well, and it cost the team in the final quarters. Yabusele got four points and a rebound in 10 minutes.

Jared McCain and Ricky Council IV added a little spark to the Sixers’ offense to help them cut down the team’s losing margin. McCain finished with five points, two assists, a steal, and a rebound in 12 minutes. Also, Council finished with seven points and a rebound in 10 minutes. These young players should get more minutes on the court.
