Luka Doncic Praises New Teammate Naji Marshall

Luka Doncic had lofty praise for Naji Marshall.

Luka Doncic recently praised his new teammate Naji Marshall. Doncic, 25, has been impressed with Marshall, 26, one of the Dallas Mavericks’ newest additions. Doncic’s recent praise could help Marshall succeed in Dallas, Texas, after signing a three-year, $27 million contract on July 6, 2024.

Marshall’s current contract might sound like a steep amount to some people, but Doncic seems to suggest that his new teammate is on track to prove his worth. Here’s what you need to know about Doncic’s recent praise for Marshall.

Luka Doncic Praises Naji Marshall

Luka Doncic recently praised Naji Marshall in a recent press conference. Doncic told the media members, “Love his game, man…I think he’s a very complete player. He can guard, he can bring the ball up, he can shoot, he can find the ball…going to keep getting better and better.”

Doncic isn’t the only player in awe of Marshall’s talents on the court. However, Doncic’s recent praise of Marshall shows that Marshall is on the right track to proving his worth in Dallas, Texas. Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA, so his admiration of other players means quite a lot.

Doncic Can Help Marshall

Naji Marshall is arguably a work in progress. From the NBA G League to the NBA itself, Marshall has steadily made progress since 2020. Marshall played college basketball at Xavier from 2017 to 2020, went undrafted at the 2020 NBA Draft, and played for the New Orleans Pelicans from 2020 to 2024.

Marshall showed glimpses of success in New Orleans, Louisiana, such as his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Lakers on January 15, 2021, and subsequent receiving of consistent minutes. Marshall’s rookie season ended with averages of 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2% from the field in 2020-21.

Marshall Adjusts To the Dallas Mavericks

Naji Marshall has been adjusting to the Dallas Mavericks. But, of course, Marshall can strive to be better than he was yesterday. Marshall has averaged 5.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field goal line so far this season, as of November 5, 2024.

Marshall experienced some success with the New Orleans Pelicans, but the Pelicans were swept by the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Marshall’s playoff role with the Pelicans was limited to a supporting role. He averaged 9.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in the playoffs, which were similar To his regular season stats.

During his time in New Orleans, Louisiana, Marshall found his niche as a 3&D wing. Marshall’s adjustment to Dallas, Texas, should work out as long as he continues to get used to his new team, put in the work, and receive more playing time. Marshall gained an admirer in Luka Doncic, which is a good, if not great, thing. Doncic recently spoke highly of Marshall, “I’ve always liked him, even when he was in New Orleans.”
