Last week, the Dallas Mavericks brought Halloween treats, gifts, and smiles to pediatric patients at Children’s Medical Center Plano in Plano, Texas. The Mavericks recently partnered with ShiftKey, a technology solution that creates direct connections between healthcare professionals and facilities, to make this Halloween celebration happen for patients and team members.
Since the patients couldn’t enjoy Halloween outside of the hospital in Plano, the Dallas Mavericks joined Mascot Champ, ManiAACs, and D-Town Crew to deliver goodies and Mavericks gear to bring the holiday to the patients. Read on for further details surrounding the Mavericks’ recent good deed.
Dallas Mavericks’ Good Deed
The Dallas Mavericks’ latest good deed for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was appreciated by the patients and team members at the Children’s Medical Center Plano. Mavericks players Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber, and Quentin Grimes joined the Mascot Champ, ManiAACs, and D-Town Crew to deliver treats and gifts to patients while bringing Halloween to the hospital.
Grimes told WFAA, “It’s great [being in the community] … I did it through my first three years in the league, so I kind of try to make it a staple to be present around the holidays. Just giving back to people who kind of look up to us, in a sense, and put a smile on kids’ faces honestly means everything.”
Grimes’ recent statement to WFAA worked in his favor, as Grimes doesn’t appear to be a hoity-toity NBA player. The 24-year-old recently rejected a rookie-scale contract extension from the Dallas Mavericks, so this is something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
Dallas Mavericks Impact On Metroplex
The Dallas Mavericks’ impact on the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has been appreciated by many individuals and families, including the patients and team members at Children’s Medical Center Plano. The Mavericks’ impact speaks volumes in photos and videos, such as the team’s most recent Halloween celebration at the hospital.
Dallas Mavericks Center Dwight Powell told WFAA, “It’s super important to come out here for me, especially Children’s Health, to see the smiles on their faces, and to be able to share even a couple small moments with them … These kids are going through real adversity. They’re facing real challenges. We all have challenges and adversity we face in life and being able to see these kids in this environment, it’s something that we can look up to and realize these kids are really fighting. To be able to share a moment of joy with them is such a blessing.”
Powell’s recent statement to WFAA was heartwarming, to put it mildly. Powell was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but played college basketball at Stanford University in Stanford, California. He was then selected with the 45th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.
