Chelsea vs. Newcastle Recap: The Blues’ Remarkable Victory

Chelsea won 2-1 over Newcastle.

It was another beautiful match at Stamford Bridge, where the Stanford owners had the last laugh. The game was between Chelsea and Newcastle. Both clubs expressed great optimism before the match, which eventually ended with a dramatic 2-1 win in favor of Chelsea. Here are interesting highlights from the match.

Chelsea’s lineup included Sanchez as goalkeeper and Gusto, Fofona, Colwill, and James as defenders. Caicedo and Lavia were defensive midfielders. Madueke, Palmer, and Neto made up the attacking front, with Jackson leading the attack in a 4-3-2-1 formation. Newcastle’s lineup consisted of Pope as the keeper, with Hali, Burn, Schar, and Livramento as their defense. Joelinton, Guimaraes, and Tonali covered the midfield, and Barnes, Isak, and Almiron handled the team’s attack.

First Half: Chelsea vs. Newcastle

Fans saw Fofona back in play after his suspension, which led to him missing the game against Liverpool. James and Neto also made it again into the starting eleven this time. Chelsea celebrated early, just five minutes into the match after Palmer got the ball into the net. However, the goal was denied as an offside.

Although the goal was denied, Chelsea saw a significant boost in morale after the trial by Palmer. Afterward, Fofona got injured due to a tackle that also landed him a yellow card. Newcastle fans were not satisfied with the officiating body when Guimaraes was fouled. No foul was awarded until the 16th minute of the game.

In the 18th minute, Jackson made it to the opponent’s net. However, Palmer’s creativity can not be underestimated in contributing to the goal. His splendid pass led to Neto’s assist. But his performance surely reminded Newcastle of how dangerous he can be. Just four minutes later, fans saw him being fouled by Schar, which led to a yellow card but no repercussions. Newcastle equalized in the 32nd minute. It was just the comeback they needed in the first half. Supporters could see hope in Hall’s eyes during the celebration.

Second Half

Like most games, the second half often determines who wins the match. Chelsea scored a stunning tiebreak just two minutes into the second 45 minutes to claim three points. This time, Lavia assisted in scoring the goal, with fan-favorite Palmer leading the ball into the net.

Lavia, Tinali, and Madueke got yellow cards again in the second half, and five players were substituted for both teams. In the 67th minute, Maresca and Howe tried to reduce their risk of struggling with 10 men. While Maresca was focused on improving defense, Howe intensified Newcastle’s attack to buy back a draw and possibly a win. Chelsea got a chance for a penalty after Burn and Nkuku had a scene in Chelsea’s attempt to score. However, the VAR denied the Blues the penalty.

Conclusion

Isak was glorious today, with an excellent performance. Chelsea owned the day after they secured a 2-1 win over Newcastle. Perhaps the match could also be deemed “feisty” after nine bookings took place within the entire match. Chelsea was able to buy back their streak after it was broken against Liverpool in their last game. Additionally, Newcastle proved to be a worthy opponent, with a close possession of 48%.

Now, Chelsea is fifth on the table, and Newcastle is 12th. There is also a great chance that Howe is worried, seeing as Newcastle now has zero wins, three losses, and two draws in its last five games. Fans are proud of Chelsea, Maresca is proud of the boys, and the club is happy.
