The 5-2 Baltimore Ravens have an AFC North divisional matchup with the 1-6 Browns in Cleveland for Week 8. Coming off their Week 7 victory, there were some good injury updates for multiple players that could impact their season outlook. The struggling Ravens defense will face Jameis Winston due to Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury last week. Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will take play-calling duties from Kevin Stefanski, so it is a different team offensively than the past few weeks for Cleveland that will go against Baltimore’s potent offense.
Marlon Humphrey Avoids Major Knee Injury
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Baltimore Ravens star cornerback Marlon Humphrey avoided a potential major knee injury in their Week 7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baltimore can afford to sit him a week to get better, maybe even two, as they have a primetime game against the 3-4 Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 for Thursday Night Football. That could turn into another shootout like in Week 5 and having their number one cornerback will be key in covering the likes of Ja’Marr Chase/ Tee Higgins.
Week 9 is against the 4-3 Denver Broncos at home, so that is also a pivotal matchup to win. The Baltimore Ravens’ other cornerbacks are Brandon Stephens, who has struggled, and rookie Nate Wiggins, who has been fine in coverage. Both have had issues turning and catching the football for interceptions. The veteran playmaker in Baltimore’s secondary Humphrey is leading the team in interceptions with 4, as he has already surpassed career highs with 3 back in 2019 and 2022.
Arthur Maulet Returns from Injured Reserve
Veteran slot cornerback Arthur Maulet is set to return off I.R. for the Baltimore Ravens and make his season debut in Week 8, coming off a knee and hamstring injury that sidelined him for the 2024 season. The Ravens activate him to the 53-man roster, giving their secondary valuable depth and a key tone-setter for their defense. Maulet is a valuable blitzer for Baltimore and can ease in as the starter along with Ar’Darius Washington, who dropped a few interceptions in Week 7.
Keaton Mitchell Beginning 3-Week Practice Window
With Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and Justice Hill, the Baltimore Ravens already have the top rushing attack by far in the league. It could get even better in November-December, as they are opening up the practice window for the star rookie from last year, Keaton Mitchell. The former undrafted rookie was on par with the likes of Miami Dolphins‘ Devon Achane in terms of explosiveness as a ball carrier in 2023.
While he should get eased in and be more impactful in the playoffs, seeing how the ground game can get even faster with his speed is encouraging. It will be important to manage him and see how he looks if he is fully 100% coming off a torn ACL. He was on the P.U.P. list to start the season for the Baltimore Ravens and is now starting to practice, according to the Athletic’s Jeff Zrebeic.
Final Thoughts on Baltimore Ravens Injuries
The Baltimore Ravens are relatively healthy for the 2024 season, as it will need to stay that way so they can compete with the likes of the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. They escaped a potential ankle injury for star wide receiver Zay Flowers in Week 7, but he came back in later and seemed ok enough to play. Having their receiving core healthy with Rashod Bateman also stepping up is a good thing to see. Their trio of tight ends with Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar, along with Mark Andrews looking like his old self, is pivotal to their offensive success now and later down the road for the playoffs.
