Anders Lee scored another goal for New York. Lee scored a big goal in the third period to give New York a 3-2 lead, which they squandered. Nevertheless, it is a very good sign that Lee scored again for the Islanders. This season is looking more like his 40-goal effort of 2017 than his 20-goal effort of last season. Here is hoping Lee does not disappear for New York. Regardless of their captain, this was an important game for New York.
Islanders Get An Important Win
New York secured two points with the rare overtime, er shootout, win. They were able to keep pace in the Metropolitan Division. It does not seem this way, but results at the beginning of the season are as important as games at the end of the season. This is why overtime losses, leaving a point on the table, are so bad. Thankfully, last night New York was able to get two big points.

There is some scoring in this game to report. Bo Horvat put the Islanders up 1-0 by opening the scoring with a power-play goal. Kyle Palmieri then scored to put the Islanders up 2-0. Cole Caufield scored for the Montreal Canadians to cap the first period scoring. The score was 2-1 Islanders after one period.
Logan Mailloux scored the lone second period goal and the game was tied 2-2 after two periods. In the third period, the Islanders and Canadians traded goals. Lee scored to give a 3-2 lead for the Islanders and then Caufield scored his second goal of the game to knot the regulation score at three. There it stayed through the overtime and eight rounds of shootouts until Noah Dobson scored for New York to win the game.

There were some good signs for the Islanders in this game, despite them blowing 2-0 and 3-2 leads. Lee scored his second goal of the season and, in the early going this season, is looking more like his 40-goal effort of 2017 than his 20-goal effort of last season. Also, not to bury the important point, the Islanders won in a shootout and secured two vital points at home.
That was good, the Islanders need all the points they can get now. Not only was this game winnable but the game on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings is also. Then, the schedule gets more difficult. The Islanders play a very good Devils team, followed by the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers, and the Penguins.
