Green Bay Packers Sign K Brandon McManus To 53-Man Roster

The Green Bay Packers are making roster moves as midseason play approaches. After the release of longtime veteran kicker Mason Crosby, the Packers have taken a different approach for the last several years. At the start of the 2024 season, Green Bay signed rookie kicker Brayden Narveson after a down year in 2023 with Anders Carlson.

Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers have moved on from their most recent placekicker on Tuesday. In place of Narveson comes veteran kicker Brandon McManus.

Green Bay Packers Sign K Brandon McManus

Brandon McManus has spent most of his career with the Denver Broncos since 2014. Green Bay hopes to finally have their kicking woes resolved by signing McManus to a one-year deal with the team. McManus was a part of the Broncos organization when they won Super Bowl 50. The veteran kicker was brought to the Green Bay Packers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played in just one game.

Throughout his time in the NFL, Brandon McManus has made 81.4% of his field goal kicks with other teams that he has played for. Compared to Brayden Narveson, the rookie missed five kicks for the Green Bay Packers. This ranks as the second-lowest in the NFL up to this point in the season.

In the last three years, Green Bay has tried out several placekickers on their roster. However, McManus has been fighting a battle with a lawsuit from being with the Jaguars recently. Being that he is not facing any disciplinary punishment, going back to playing football should not be an issue for McManus heading to the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay Packers Upcoming Schedule

Green Bay is currently on a two-game winning streak through the first six games with a record of 4-2. In their last game, the Green Bay Packers beat the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 34-13 at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Both sides of the ball seemed to be in sync and playing solid football.

A big downfall was placekicker Brayden Narveson. He missed an extra point that ultimately led to his release yesterday. The Packers’ schedule will get tougher as the season moves along. They will play their third straight game at home against the Houston Texans this weekend.

Conclusion

With the Green Bay Packers still signing players to their roster, there is no doubt that Brayden Narveson will get a chance to play for another organization. Brandon McManus will get the start in the upcoming game against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Overall, he has the most experience out of the last two placekickers that Green Bay had over the last few years.

Special teams are critical to every franchise in the National Football League. Green Bay could have their kicker for the foreseeable future if he proves to his teammates and coaches that he is the right guy for the position.
