Philadelphia 76ers Outlook After 2 Devastating Injury Updates

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without two key players for the beginning of the season.

A few days before the commencement of the 2024-25 season, the Philadelphia 76ers received some devastating news. This news involved their star player, Paul George, and Joel Embiid. Yet, the light shines at the end of the tunnel as the Philadelphia 76ers outlook is promising. What should we expect from the team moving into the next season?

Paul George Injury Update

The six-time All-NBA forward got injured during the Sixers’ preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks. This injury occurred during the game’s second quarter while Paul George was playing defense. Though George won the battle on the defensive end, he didn’t land well on his left knee. Thus, the team reported that the Philadelphia 76ers forward suffered from a hyperextended left knee injury.

Paul George left the game with eight points, two rebounds, and one assist. On the other hand, George is positive about recovering quickly, as he expressed that the injury is minor. The Sixers against the Hawks was the second game the All-Star forward played for the team. In his first game, George dropped 23 points, six rebounds, a steal, and two assists.

Joel Embiid’s Injury Update

After signing Paul George, the Philadelphia 76ers looked unstoppable. Also, the team added more depth to the team’s lineup that would support the Sixers MVP. Yet, the Sixers’ threat as one of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference slowly dwindles.

Tim Bontemps tweeted that “Joel Embiid has been officially ruled out for the remainder of the preseason, as he continues to ramp up for the start of arguably the most anticipated season of his time in Philadelphia.” Joel Embiid didn’t participate in the Sixers preseason opener which intrigued questions about his health. However, he wasn’t available due to a scheduled assessment for his knee. Now, the Sixer center told ESPN that he wouldn’t play back-to-back games for the rest of his career. Thus, what will be the Sixers outlook without their stars?

Philadelphia 76ers Outlook

Paul George and Joel Embiid are out of the picture with injuries. How will the team fare? Tyrese Maxey’s determination for this season gives the Philadelphia 76ers hope. Throughout this preseason exhibit, the 23-year-old guard’s performance has been top-tier. One could say the offensive workload would be heavy on Maxey. Yet, Ricky Council IV and Jared McCain are thriving for the team. Also, their contributions helped the team dominate the Atlanta Hawks.

Other additions to the Sixers team: Caleb Martin, Gureschon Yabusele, and Andre Drummond will make solid rotation and backup pieces. Kelly Oubre Jr.’s performance has been promising as well. Though Yabusele plays as backup five, he is best in the four positions. But if he strives as a five for the Sixers, the team’s defense will improve.

Without George and Embiid, the team’s lineup will still be solid. The starting five should be Maxey, Yabusele, Caleb Martin, Oubre Jr., and Drummond. In addition to starting five, the team has vets who will support the team when needed. The Philadelphia 76ers should be competitive without Embiid and George. Now, the franchise can focus on keeping their All-Star vets healthy for next season.
