Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks Breakdown: The Rivalry Continues

Anaheim

Game three in the introductory period of the 2024-2025 NHL regular season for the Golden Knights was underway tonight against the Anaheim Ducks. The last game in the fortress for the VGK before hitting the road east to face more clubs. Did the VGK continue their winning streak, or did the Anaheim Ducks take the win from this powerhouse club?

Period One

The Las Vegas Golden Knights faced off against their conference rival for their third game into the NHL season. Hoping to keep their streak alive, the Knights were quick on the draw and fierce on the four-check. The first line for the Knights launched the assault. First-liners Ivan Barbashev, Jack Eichel, and Mark Stone have led the team in points starting this season.

Although, the first goal of the game came from Brett Howden and his line. Ilya Samsonov made his debut with the Golden Knights tonight. Ilya Samsonov made his debut for the Golden Knights tonight. He was challenged by the young, eager players of the Ducks and denied nine shots out of ten. Period one ended; 1-1.

Period Two

Period two began with former Anaheim Duck Shea Theodore pressuring the Ducks’ defensemen. Theodore had no love lost with his former team, as he played extremely aggressively throughout the night. Trevor Zegras of the Ducks caught a hooking penalty, the first of the game. During the power play, Alexander Holtz scored, but the goal was denied due to his high stick.

Increasing their offensive pressure, the VGK caught and surpassed the shots on goal of the Anaheim Ducks. During another power play, the Knights did not take advantage of the extra man. While Bruce Cassidy continues to switch his lines, and offensive zone time is up, the Golden Knights are still struggling to find space in the net.

Period Three

Period three in the game started with an explosive offensive drive from the Ducks. However, the Golden Knights were able to shut down the advances from Anaheim. Last season, the Anaheim Ducks were the most penalized team in the league, this match did not contradict that. Another power play for the Golden Knights ended with a score from Tomas Hertl.

The score was now 2-1, and the Knights were eager to add cushion to the lead. Brayden McNabb caught the only penalty for Vegas. The club has improved their discipline coming into the regular season. Another improvement by Vegas has been their power play kills, shutting down the power play for Anaheim.

Another perfect setup by the fourth line ended with a simple and effective score from Pavel Dorofeyev with the notable assist of Keegan Kolesar. The fourth line did the most damage on the ice during this matchup, temporarily taking the spotlight from Eichel’s impactful line during the first two regular season games. The Golden Knights were sent to yet, another power play, but came up short of another goal. The final score of the third game of the 2024-2025 NHL season for the Golden Knights, preserved their sweep, 3-1.

The Golden Knights Making Waves

The Golden Knights pushed hard on their division rival during the matchup. While many goal-scoring threats have recently left the Vegas club, players such as Brett Howden and Keegan Kolesar have filled their skates. Replacing William Carrier and Paul Cotter, Howden, and Kolesar have made substantial efforts on the offense.

Although the Knights’ defensemen still have some adjusting to do, given the multiple breakaways for Anaheim, overall, the Golden Knights hit hard and continue to do so. While Head Coach Bruce Cassidy continues to find his favorite lines, the Golden Knights are still 3-0 on their introduction to the 2024-2025 NHL season.
