Alexsander Barkov To Miss 2-3 Weeks With Lower Body Injury

Florida Panthers Alexsander Barkov

The Florida Panthers are on a four-game road trip at the start of the new season. They raised the Stanley Cup Banner Tuesday against the Boston Bruins and then went on their road trip. They played the Ottawa Senators on Thursday and lost 3-1.

Florida Panthers Captain Alexsander Barkov left the game in the 3rd period with 1:10 remaining on the game. Barkov collided with the end boards after trying to stop Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle from scoring.

Alexsander Barkov To Miss 2-3 Weeks

When Alexsander Barkov collided with the end boards he could not put any weight on his right leg and he was helped off the ice and to the locker room. Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice announced that Alexsander Barkov will miss 2-3 weeks and the team is optimistic he will be back for the Global Series in Finland when the Panthers take on the Dallas Stars November 1st-2nd.

Head Coach Paul Maurice said Saturday “We think 2-3 weeks, That’s probably the right window on him. He’s a strong healer. He’s just a big powerful man.” Forward Patrick Giles will make his NHL debut and replace Alexsander Barkov in the lineup in Buffalo on Saturday.

Alexsander Barkov has one assist in two games this season and is averaging 20 minutes on ice. Also, forward Matthew Tkachuk will miss the game against the Buffalo Sabres due to illness. The Florida Panthers will have to make some line adjustments without both star forwards in Buffalo.

Good news Adam Boqvist will be returning to the lineup after suffering an upper body injury. With these changes, the Florida Panthers will be dressing 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Forward Evan Rodrigues said “Next man up. We started off last year missing key players. You never want to lose anybody, but we’ll have a next-man-up mentality, and everyone will have to step up their game.”

Final Thoughts

The Florida Panthers are playing the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night at 7pm ET without their Captain Alexsander Barkov who will miss two-three weeks with a lower body injury. Barkov, the team is optimistic he will be for the Global Series in Finland against the Dallas Stars November 1st and 2nd. The Panthers are grateful the injury to Barkov was not as series as they thought.

The Panthers will focus one game at a time without their Captain and have the “next man up” mentality. The Panthers are 1-1 in the standings so far in this early new NHL season. The Panthers are hoping to have a successful road trip despite dropping the first game against the Senators. Look for the Panthers to get back on track Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres.
