NBA GMs Choose Luka Doncic As Best Point Guard In NBA

Luka Doncic received high praise from NBA General Managers.

According to Yahoo Sports, many general managers chose Point Guard Luka Doncic as the best point guard in the NBA. These general managers reacted to key topics ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. The 2024-25 NBA.com GM Survey shared the opinions of these general managers, and you can learn a thing or two.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2024 NBA Finals for their 18th NBA championship in franchise history this past June. But, despite being one of the most dominant NBA champions, the Celtics weren’t the only namesake topic mentioned in the survey. Read on for further details.

Luka Doncic As a Constant Topic

Luka Doncic was a constant topic in the 2024-25 NBA.com GM survey. Doncic was chosen as the best point guard in the NBA with 37% of the vote and surpassed the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry, and the New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson. Brunson is a former Dallas Maverick from 2018 to 2022, and these players earned 30%, 23%, and 10% of the vote, respectively.

Luka Doncic’s role as a point guard has been a topic of discussion in the basketball world, even before this year’s survey for NBA general managers. Doncic was the best player on an NBA Finals team and the general managers who voted for him likely overlooked his behavior, injuries, etc.

Doncic’s Other Accolades

Aside from best point guard in the NBA, Luka Doncic earned some other accolades in the NBA.com GM survey. Doncic finished in fifth place for the best shooting guard in the NBA and tied for second place for best all-around small forward in the league. He was the only player in the league in the top five in all three categories.

When it comes to subjective choices, the NBA general managers involved in the survey voted Luka Doncic as their third choice for who they’d want to take the final shot in a game on the line and for the IQ in basketball. The same general managers voted him as their second choice for both the best foreign player and passer to the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic.

Dallas Mavericks Players Not Named Doncic

There were other Dallas Mavericks players not named Luka Doncic mentioned in the NBA.com GM survey. The Mavericks’ newly-acquired Shooting Guard Klay Thompson was the general managers’ fifth pick for the most underrated signing of the offseason and received plenty of votes for the best shooter in the NBA. Also, Kyrie Irving was voted as the fastest player with the ball in his hands after securing 3% of the votes.

In the survey, 7% of the general managers believe that the Mavericks’ offense is the most efficient in the NBA. But, at the same time, 7% also believe that the Mavericks were the toughest team to predict how well they do this season. The team’s mixed bag of votes in these two categories is too early to tell, so let’s see how the team’s preseason pans out, as the team will host the Utah Jazz on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Central.
