Philadelphia Eagles Release Pro Bowler Devin White Ahead of Week 6

Devin White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have made some news today as they have officially released former Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White. White has not been able to get on the field for the team throughout the first five games of the NFL season after signing with the team in the offseason. This is going to go down as one of the biggest mistakes that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has made. Let’s take a closer look at what exactly happened and what went down.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have released former Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White. He has not played a single snap for the team this season after signing a one-year,  $4 million ($3.5 million guaranteed) contract during the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles after a rough end with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. White is now going to be a free agent and can sign with any team for the league minimum.

This is one of those signings that just did not work out for either side as Devin White was beat out for a starting spot in the preseason. Now, he will look to find a new home and the 26-year-old Super Bowl winning-linebacker should have no shortage of suitors. He has played in 76 games (75 starts) throughout his career and has 566 total tackles with 230 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. With teams looking to bolster their roster before the NFL Trade Deadline, it will be interesting to see who is interested in him.

This also is a line of head-scratching decisions that the Philadelphia Eagles have made during the offseason as the big moves they made were signing Devin White, defensive end Bryce Huff, and trading for wide receiver Jahan Dotson. All three of those players have made minimal impact on the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles roster.  The team is currently third in the NFC East with a 2-2 record and 10th in the NFC right now so they need to figure out how to correct themselves before it becomes a lost season.
