According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre Lebrun, the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman have agreed to an eight-year, $66 million deal. The 25-year-old netminder was 25-10-8 last season, with a 2.53 GAA and a .916 SV%. Through 12 playoff games last spring, Swayman was 6-6 with a 2.16 GAA and a .933 SV%. This deal is on the heels of a tumultuous few months, leading Swayman to miss Bruins training camp, and many to believe a deal would not get done in time to start the season. How will this deal work out for both sides?
Swayman the Man In Boston
For years, Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark have been the dynamic duo between the pipes in Boston. Earlier this summer, the Bruins traded Ullmark to Ottawa, making Swayman the man of the future in “Bean Town.” Since being drafted by the Bruins 111th overall in 2017, Swayman has a .919 SV% and a 2.34 GAA, going 79-33-15 in that stretch. He has never played more than 44 games in a season, and with Ullmark out, this year he may get that opportunity.
In the playoffs, Swayman is 9-10, with a .922 SV% and a 2.38 GAA. In the summer, Swayman was quoted revealing the fact that the Bruins doubted his playoff ability heading into the 23-24 season. “My biggest knock was how I wasn’t trustworthy in playoffs. Check.” It’s hard to know exactly what the Bruins will get from Swayman in the first few months after missing training camp. Regardless, Swayman is now the man in Boston for many years to come after a summer of sweat and speculation. Boston begins their regular season on Tuesday against the defensing-champion Florida Panthers.
