Bruno Guimaraes ‘Not Interested’ in a Manchester City Move

Bruno Guimaraes

Manchester City have reportedly encountered a setback in their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The 26-year-old Brazilian stayed at St. James’ Park over the summer despite significant transfer interest from top clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

Bruno Guimaraes had a 100 million pound release clause in his contract, which expired in June, but rumours of a potential move to Manchester City resurfaced after City’s key midfielder, Rodri, was ruled out for the rest of the season due to knee ligament damage.

Bruno Guimaraes and Manchester City Relation Brief

Manchester City were reportedly considering reigniting their interest in Bruno Guimaraes, believing that he might be open to joining them, despite his public statements about being happy at Newcastle. However, according to Brazilian outlet Trivela, there are two main reasons why Guimaraes is not keen on moving to Manchester City and prefers to stay at Newcastle.

The first reason is related to his new leadership role at Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes has been appointed club captain this season, leading the team in their first six Premier League matches. This promotion has boosted his morale, and he now sees himself as a key figure at the club. According to sources close to the player, Guimaraes would only consider leaving Newcastle if the club itself decides to sell him.

He is said to have a deep respect for his teammates and views his role as captain as a dream come true. One insider stated, “There are many clubs interested, but any deal will only happen if Newcastle resolves things first. Bruno will not initiate any departure.”

Other Reasons Why Guimaraes Isn’t Interested

The second reason Bruno Guimaraes is not interested in joining City is tied to Rodri’s injury situation. Although City might seek a replacement for Rodri in January, the Spanish midfielder is expected to regain his starting position once he is fit again. Guimaraes does not want to be seen as a temporary fix and is uninterested in being a stopgap solution for City while Rodri recovers. The Brazilian midfielder values his key role at Newcastle, where he plays regularly, and does not see a lesser role at Manchester City as the right next step for his career.

Despite some uncertainty around Newcastle’s financial situation and the possibility that they might need to sell star players in January, Bruno Guimaraes appears committed to staying. He is under contract until June 2028 and has contributed 17 goals and 17 assists in 115 appearances for the club.

Players to Look Out for Manchester City

As City explore alternatives, they have been linked to other midfielders, including Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, and Torino’s Samuele Ricci, with Ricci emerging as a more affordable option.

The Blues can also look forward to the services of the Croatian veteran Mateo Kovacic. He is the one capable to take up the vacant position and also produce results. Kovacic is an experienced player and can take up a lot of responsibilities for the team.
