Chicago Blackhawks Send Kevin Korchinski and Frank Nazar To AHL

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that they have assigned forward Frank Nazar, along with defensemen Louis Crevier and Kevin Korchinski, to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The team has also assigned forward AJ Spellacy to the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. The Chicago Blackhawks‘ training camp roster now features 28 players (15 forwards, nine defensemen, four goalies).

Frank Nazar made his NHL Debut last season, scoring on his first shot in his career vs the Carolina Hurricanes at home, Nazar had 1 point in 3 games which was that goal. Louis Crevier played 24 games with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2023-2024 Season where he put up 0 goals and 3 assists. A.J. Spellacy had an amazing training camp and preseason, but since the Blackhawks drafted him in 2024, he is probably not ready for the NHL just yet.

Kevin Korchinski’s Rookie Season in Chicago

Kevin Korchinski spent the entire 2023-24 season with the Chicago Blackhawks as an 18-year-old. Per the CHL rules, he was not able to play in the AHL, so he either had to play with the Blackhawks or return to the CHL. Kevin Korchinski played on the second pairing last season and at times looked outmatched in the NHL. As an 18-year-old, that’s absolutely expected, but the Blackhawks didn’t have anyone to jump up and take a bigger role over him.

Kevin Korchinski played 76 games last season, scored 5 goals and had 10 assists for 15 points for the season, Korchinski finished with a plus/minus  of -39 with 20 Penalty Minutes. This offseason the Blackhawks signed TJ Brodie and Alec Martinez to add more veterans on the blueline with Seth Jones and Connor Murphy already there. Kevin Korchinski was drafted 8th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks, the pick was acquired in the Alex DeBrincat trade where the Ottawa Senators acquired DeBrincat.
