Chip Ganassi Racing: Alex Palou Honored at Victory Lap Celebration

Alex Palou Chip Ganassi Racing

Chip Ganassi Racing and Alex Palou have had four impeccable seasons together since the driver signed with the team in 2021 to pilot the No. 10 Dallara Honda. Together, they’ve marked three championships, the most recent at the NTT Series season finale at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix in Nashville this September. As Palou’s legacy continues to grow, so does Chip Ganassi’s, and on September 30, that mutual success was honored at the Victory Lap Ceremony held at Indianapolis Motorspeedway Museum.

Palou’s Success With Chip Ganassi  Racing

Since Palou debuted at Chip Ganassi Racing, he’s secured top 5 finishes in 17 races and three titles in under four years. The 27-year-old is the seventh and only driver on Ganassi’s team since Dario Franchitti to win three consecutive championships in a little under four years. He came to Ganassi after spending time in Japan racing Formula 1 for Dale Coyne Racing in Partnership with Team Goh, gaining seven starts and finishing 28th.

Unhappy with his progress, he decided it was time for a change and returned to the United States to try IndyCar.The decision to move from Formula 1 to IndyCar and join Chip Ganassi Racing is likely the best one of his career, giving him the chance to place 16th overall in the NTT series standings and earn his team the fourth consecutive championship in five years. Palou has made Ganassi a happy man, and if there’s one thing he likes, it’s that he is a winner.

Chip Ganassi and Others Equally Honored

Alongside Alex Palou, Chip Ganassi was honored at the Victory Lap Ceremony in Indianapolis. He accepted the Championship Owner Award for his exceptional leadership over the years but more recently for the 2024 Season. While experiencing pitfalls like downsizing the number of cars in his lineup from 5 to 3 in preparation for the new IndyCar Charter set in 2025, he rose above pressure to lead his drivers to victory, so the honor was well deserved. However, he feels his drivers are the real heroes.

Among others honored were Alex Palou’s mechanic, Ricky Davis, who received the Pennzoil Chief Mechanic Award, and Team Managers Blair Julian and Mike LeGallic, who received the NTT Series IndyCar Series Team Manager Award for 2024. Chip Ganassi Racing seems to have struck gold for the past five seasons, but 2024 was a standout. It ranked number one in driving standings and awarded Swedish promise Linus Lindqvist the Rookie of the Year for the second year in a row. There’s no question this success will continue through 2025.

Final Thoughts

Over the past five years, Chip Ganassi Racing and esteemed driver Alex Palou have shared mutual success since the Spaniard’s move to the team in 2021. He’s brought four consecutive championship titles and is the only driver to have done so since Ganassi driver Franchitti from 2009 to 2011. The successful relationship will undoubtedly continue into 2025 even as the charter hangs in the balance, and there are several changes coming.
