Texans Come Back In 4th Quarter To Beat Jaguars

The Houston Texans needed a game-winning drive to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nico Collins shone in the Texans victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The game was close throughout, as neither team had more than a 10-point lead. The Texans were also held back by penalties, a big issue for them in their Week 3 loss to the Vikings. Houston’s defense was able to hold out, though, giving Stroud and Collins enough time to drive down the field in the final seconds to win 24-20.

Big Mistakes Led To Jaguars Early Lead

The first mistake came during a routine punt return at the beginning of the game. The Texans Punt Returner Steven Sims muffed the catch, and the Jaguars punt coverage picked up the ball for the turnover. This led to a Trevor Lawrence touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. who led the Jaguars in receiving yards on the day.

The Texans did answer with a touchdown of their own. They ran a very interesting play where Stefon Diggs carried the ball to the near side of the field. It looked like he was going to throw, but he didn’t like what the defense gave him, so he simply tucked the ball and ran into the endzone himself.

For the rest of the first half, the Texans had to deal with repeated penalties. One drive saw them reach the red zone, only to have a holding call push them back, followed by an illegal man downfield penalty. The Texans then had to settle for a field goal, giving them a 17-13 lead going into the half.

Texans Lose Lead, But Gain It Back

The defense for the Texans stepped up in the second half, especially the front four. Eric Murray was able to bring Trevor Lawrence down in the backfield on a key third down. This didn’t stop Lawrence from getting into a rhythm, though. He was able to spot Christian Kirk in the corner of the endzone to put the Jaguars up, giving the Jags a 20-17 lead.

The big surprise on the entire game was Jacksonville’s Tank Bigsby, who was able to outrun starting Running Back Travis Etienne. Bigsby almost put the game out of reach, taking a run out of shotgun and rushing 58 yards down the sideline into the endzone. It was later found that Bigsby stepped out around the four-yard line, however. From there, the Texans defense held firm, holding the Jaguars to a turnover on downs.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud was then able to orchestrate a game-winning drive to earn the lead. The second play of the drive was 26 yards to Nico Collins, who led the day in receiving. Stroud then kept making completions, and once they got into scoring position, Stroud called a play-action fake and dialed up a game-winning throw to Dare Ogunbowale. After the win, Houston retains a firm hold on the AFC South at 3-1. Meanwhile, Jacksonville is still hunting for their first win of the season.
