2025 NFL Draft Prospects: Louisville and Notre Dame Cornerbacks

Draft

Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Michigan’s Will Johnson are regarded as the top 2 cornerback prospects for the 2025 draft. It’s hard to argue against that. Both are living up to the hype and look like automatic top 10 picks. Other corners are off to good starts as well, and two of them are playing in this game: Quincy Riley of Louisville and Benjamin Morrison of Notre Dame.

Undefeated #15 Lousiville visits South Bend to face #16 Notre Dame. The Irish have won two straight by a wide margin since the home loss to Northern Illinois. It was one of the most shocking upsets in recent memory. Notre Dame knows they can still get into the playoff if they win out. They will likely be favored in each of their remaining games. Louisville looks to pull the upset and get in the playoff discussion as well.

Louisville Ball Hawk

Quincy Riley has elite ball skills. His high football IQ and ability to read the quarterback have led to 14 career interceptions. Riley excels in zone coverage but has the size to be effective in man coverage as well. He is not afraid to get physical with wide receivers and should fit any NFL scheme.

Despite his above-average size for a corner, Riley needs to improve in the run game. While he is a willing tackler, he has trouble getting off blocks. Getting into an NFL weight room and adding strength should help improve in that area. Riley is #93 on the consensus draft board. I expected him to be higher than that because of his versatility and ball skills.

Irish Playmaker

Benjamin Morrison can shut down the opponent’s best wide receiver. Like Riley, he excels in zone coverage and press-man. Morrison has the instincts you look for and the closing speed to make a play on the ball. This has led to nine career interceptions despite opposing quarterbacks rarely throwing his way.

There aren’t many weaknesses in Morrison’s game. He is a good run defender but could improve his tackling technique. Morrison is a high-floor prospect in the draft that should be a starter for an NFL team on day one. He is currently #10 on the consensus draft big board and the #3 defensive back.

Cornerback figures to be a strong position in the 2025 NFL draft. The consensus draft board has three in the top 10 and 12 in the top 100. Two of the best will be on display when Louisville visits Notre Dame. The game is this Saturday at 3:30 Eastern on Peacock
