It has been three weeks but the Giants got their first win of the season. Is this a promising start to a lackluster season thus far for New York, or was it a fluke win against a fluke team? Are the browns turning things around or will the Browns get flushed down? These are all great questions and we will answer these questions and more as we break down the recap of the Giants-Browns game.
Giants Get On Track
With a daunting 0-2 start, Quarterback Daniel Jones looked to make a stop of the tailspin season thus far. With the massive contract looming over his head, he needed a win in a Giant way, pun intended. With success being found in rookie receiver Malik Nabers, Jones looked to build on this success. However, upon kickoff and providing a turnover to the Browns it looked like it would be a long Sunday for Giants fans.
The Giants rallied in the best way possible. Jones threw for a shocking 236 yards and topped it off with two touchdown passes, both to Nabers. Running Back Devin Singletary had a modest game but was very productive with 100+ all-purpose yards. But let us focus on the main person who is arguably the best player on the Giants.
Taken in the 1st round of last year’s draft, Nabers. Nabers is off to one amazing rookie campaign, with two touchdowns on the day. The talent is there, and with an above-average quarterback in Jones at the helm, it seems Nabers is getting better every week. It was an all-around win for the New York Giants. They take on a formidable Cowboys team at home next week. This matchup will be a good test if the Giants are here to stay and play or if their week three win was a fluke.
Cleveland Browns Drop A Game They Shouldn’t Have
Whether it was the off-the-field distractions or lack of focus, it seemed the Browns were not firing on all cylinders today. There was fantastic hope for a blowout with the kick-off turnover, but that quickly turned into an eye-popping eight sacks against Watson today. While it would be nice to say the Giants defense was that formidable, that would not be the case. The Browns offensive line just couldn’t keep the Giants from getting to their quarterback.
Miscues on offense did not help things either as there wasn’t much traction. On the bright side of things, even with all the lack of luster on offense, there was still a good amount of hope for the Browns to not only come back but to win it. Alas, they fell short and the Browns took the loss for the week. Deshaun Watson needed a big game today and a big win would have helped get this team on a better track. The Browns will need to regroup as they head to the road against the Raiders next week. This a winnable game and would get the Browns back to .500 on the year.
Final Thoughts
All in all, it was a fairly entertaining day for both teams. As each team put up a good fight, it was a great show of defense by the Giants and more mistakes by the Browns that led to their defeat. The biggest upside to take away from this game is the talent that is being displayed by Nabers. Whether you are a Browns or Giants fan or any fan for that matter, it was incredible to see a professional at his craft.
