New York Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on star Shortstop Francisco Lindor’s injury status before this afternoon’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. When asked about how Lindor is feeling Mendoza said, “He’s gonna go out and do more baseball activities. Hopefully, it’s a little bit more than what he did yesterday. He’s gonna play catch and run some sprints, take BP, maybe take some groundballs, and see what we got after that…” The skipper mentioned that he hopes Lindor can return to the diamond on Tuesday when the New York Mets begin a three-game set on the road against the Atlanta Braves.
Lindor has been sidelined with a back injury since September 15 and received a shot in his back earlier this week in hopes that it would alleviate the pain and speed up the perennial all-star’s return to the field. He is hitting .271 with 31 home runs and 86 RBI this season. When will Lindor return to the lineup and how will he fare once he can return?
New York Mets Fighting For A Playoff Spot
The New York Mets(85-69) are locked in a fight for one of the final two National League Wild Card spots. They are two games clear of the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card spot and one game back of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second spot. New York has a tough closing stretch to their 2024 regular season. They have two games remaining in their series against the Philadelphia Phillies before heading on the road to face the Braves and Milwaukee Brewers.
Lindor has been a crucial part of a New York Mets offense that has been one of the league’s best in 2024. They are 11th in batting average, sixth in home runs, and fifth in runs scored. First Baseman Pete Alonso leads the ballclub in home runs and RBI. The New York Mets need Lindor to return sooner rather than later so they can make the MLB Playoffs and have Lindor at full strength once the postseason rolls around.
