The New York Yankees are going to need to have Juan Soto at peak level in order to be a threat for the World Series. The team already has clinched a playoff spot and enter Friday with a four-game lead in the AL East over the Baltimore Orioles with nine games remaining in the regular season. After banging his left knee against the right field wall in foul territory at T-Mobile Park on Thursday afternoon, fans held their breath as Juan Soto was in pain but remained in the game. Juan Soto scratched from lineup
The New York Yankees released their lineup for Friday’s series-opening game against the Oakland Athletics and Juan Soto was initially in the lineup as the right fielder. However, Bryan Hoch of MLB is reporting that Soto has been removed from the lineup due to left knee swelling/soreness. Some good news is that the precautionary X-rays were negative, but this is not the first time that he has suffered an injury this season.
Earlier this year, Soto suffered a wrist injury in Toronto when sliding into home plate and would miss a game or two, but nothing significant. The knee injury does not sound serious and with the lead in the AL East as well as already clinching a postseason berth, the New York Yankees do not want to push him and will value rest. As of this writing, the Yankees have not announced this decision to remove Juan Soto from the lineup so it will be interesting to see the new lineup once it is officially posted.
