Sean O’Malley Rejects the Judges’ Decision at UFC 306

Sean O'Malley Rejects the Judges' Decision at UFC 306

Sean O’Malley is now focused on the recent loss in the bantamweight title match where he lost against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306. Many fans and officials are convinced that ‘The Machine’ Dvalishvili had a rather convincing victory.

O’Malley also did not say anything about it in the start but now he believes he should have been awarded the victory suggesting that something else must have led to the loss. He appeared on his social media platforms and declared that several rounds should have been in his favor and he has won them.

It looks like O’Malley was silent after the fight but after that, he rewatched his fight again and again and eventually found some points that could potentially allow him to reclaim the title even without fighting. Other than that O’Malley also revealed something later that shocked everyone and that was when he said that he was disappointed but he had a hip injury and he would need surgery. So, if he recovers, he may be out for over a year.

However, the former champion now looks hungrier stating that he will be back next summer to ‘keep his belt’ against what can be presumed to be the next opponent in line, Umar Nurmagomedov. Sean O’Malley said this about Merab Dvalishvili:

Merab is f*cking terrified of Umar. Doesn’t want to fight Umar. I don’t know why. Umar is good, don’t get me wrong. But Merab is terrified. He’s not a champ. I’m the champ. I would fight Umar next. I can fight Umar next for the belt. I’m the champ. I should defend my belt against Umar. I have to get surgery on Oct. 3, I’ll be back probably in June or July. I’m going to come back as quickly as possible because I love this shit.

Loses of Sean O’Malley

Many people may feel that this is the first time that Sean O’Malley stated that he never had lost a fight but in reality, this is not his first time since he also once lost another fight in his career and he had the same attitude towards that, therefore it makes two worst losses in his career.

His first defeat was when he fought against Marlon Vera earlier this year but after that, he started claiming to be still an undefeated fighter till now as he also doesn’t admit to being defeated by Dvalishvili. Sean O’Malley also talked about Umar Nurmagomedov and how he is the best contender for the next match.

Final Thoughts

Overall, if it is possible to oversimplify the fight of Sean O’Malley against Merab Dvalishvili, it will be easy to say that O’Malley did not dominate most of the fight except for a few moments and even got into a weird and embarrassing moment where he got a kiss from Dvalisvili.

But there was truth in O’Malley’s words about the battle for the fight of the number 1 contender because Umar Nurmagomedov has done a lot in all these years.
