The 2013 Stanley Cup Final was a very intriguing matchup, the Blackhawks and Boston Bruins were both looking for their second Stanley Cup win in a few years, the Blackhawks won the 2010 Finals and the next year the Boston Bruins won the 2011 Cup Finals over the Vancouver Canucks.
Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins and Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks are very key players in this series, both are centers that excel on offense and defense and are leaders for their respective teams.
Series Recap up to Game 6
The Chicago Blackhawks had a home-ice advantage in this series, they won the president’s trophy and the Blackhawks had a 24-game point streak during the shortened regular-season which was the third longest in NHL history.
Game 1 was wild, Milan Lucic opened the scoring for the only goal in the 1st period, and Lucic again would score to make it 2-0 Boston, Patrice Bergeron would make it 3-1 in the 3rd but Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya would score to make it 3-3 and force overtime, Andrew Shaw would score in the third overtime to compete the Blackhawks comeback, This was the 24th longest NHL overtime game, and the fifth longest in the history of the Stanley Cup Finals, This was the 24th longest NHL overtime game, and the fifth longest in the history of the Stanley Cup Finals.
In Game 2 Patrick Sharp would open the scoring for the Blackhawks, Chris Kelly would tie the game up at one in the second period, and the game would go to overtime, once again but this time the Boston Bruins would win, Daniel Paille would score 13:48 into the 1st overtime period to tie the Stanley Cup Finals at 1. Game 3 was in Boston and they took full advantage of that shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3, 2-0 the Bruins Goalie Tuukka Rask shut down everything the Blackhawks threw at them, giving them a 2-1 series lead.
From a Bruins shutout in Game 3, Game 4 couldn’t have been more different, After only 12 total goals were scored in the first three games, game four featured a series-high 11 total goals which was a Chicago Blackhawks 6-5 Overtime win, a third overtime game in four games, Brent Seabrook would score in overtime to force the series back to Chicago tied at 2.
Blackhawks Superstar Patrick Kane would take Game 5 for Chicago, he’d score the first two goals in the game before Zedeno Chara would make it 2-1 but David Bolland would end the game with an empty netter to make it 3-1, and take the series 3-2 for the Blackhawks and put Boston on the Brink of elimination.
Game 6 Recap
At home the Bruins would start the game strong, Chris Kelly would open the scoring for Boston to end the 1st period 1-0, and Jonathan Toews would answer for the Blackhawks to tie the game at 1 before Milan Lucic would give Boston the lead back.
The third period was tight, the Bruins were hanging on a one-goal lead and held that lead and late in the game the Blackhawks would pull the goalie for the extra attacker and everything would change, Bryan Bickell would score to tie the game for the Blackhawks from a pass from Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews, 17 seconds later NHL history would change, David Bolland would score again to shock the Bruins to give the Blackhawks the lead with just 59 seconds left in the game.
The Blackhawks would hold on to that lead to absolutely stun the Hockey World and win their second Stanley Cup in three years, Patrick Kane would win the Conn Smythe for the Blackhawks.
