Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir Breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Huge Record in T20

Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir Breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Record in T20

When playing Twenty20 International cricket, Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir achieved a record by bowling 25 maiden overs, surpassing India’s Bhuveshnar Kumar. Amir, 32, who is now playing in the Caribbean T20 League with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, earned the third position on this list. But Sunil Narine, the off-spin bowler from the West Indies, is ahead with 30 maiden overs, followed by Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh in second place with 26.

With 25 maiden overs, the 32-year-old is ranked number three, while Kumar is ranked fourth with 24. In the meantime, after taking 347 wickets in 302 games, the left-arm fast-medium bowler has given his team his all in the domestic T20 format. The elite cricket player has also taken five wickets in seven of the current 2024 Caribbean Premier League games.

Mohammad Amir’s 2017 Heroics Performance

Mohammad Amir, who got wickets from key Indian batsmen including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan, had a significant effect on the Green Shirts during the 2017 Champions Trophy. Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs, thanks in part to this performance, and won the title. After losing to the Barbados Royals on Thursday, September 12, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are ready to make an impression against the St Lucia Kings on Monday.

Against Trinbago Knight Riders on Friday, September 6, Mohammad Amir’s squad has only won one game in the competition, winning by a margin of six runs. Concurrently, in the domestic T20 format, the left-arm fast-medium bowler has taken 347 wickets in 302 matches. Yet, he has produced maximum output for his squad. Furthermore, in seven games played in the current 2024 Caribbean Premier League, the famous cricket player has claimed five wickets. In the event against Trinbago Knight Riders on Friday, September 6, Mohammad Amir’s team only managed one victory by a margin of six runs.

Earlier this year, Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi broke Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s record by taking the most first-over wickets in Twenty20 matches. Afridi did this by dismissing Tim Robinson in the opening Twenty20 International match against New Zealand. He took his total to 49 first-over wickets. With this maiden over, Mohammad Amir’s total of T20 wickets has surpassed the previous record held by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (24).

Amir now has more maidens than other bowlers of note, such as Trent Boult of New Zealand (17), Wahab Riaz (21) Mohammad Irfan (20) of Pakistan, and Jasprit Bumrah of India (22). With his performance, Mohammad Amir broke Kumar’s previous record of 24 wickets in T20 cricket. He set a record when he bowled the first over of the game, effectively keeping the hard-hitting Rakheem Cornwall scoreless.

The 31-year-old pacer’s career has been turbulent; scandals ruined his early promise. He was eventually forced to quit playing international cricket. Nevertheless, Mohammad Amir made a comeback to the game and has since emerged as a key player in several T20 tournaments across the world. His recent performances in the CPL have cemented his status as one of the league’s best bowlers.
