The offense of the New York Mets helped lead them to victory earlier tonight at home against the Boston Red Sox. This is New York’s fifth consecutive victory. New York won 4-1 to take the first game of this series that will have a drastic impact on both the National League and American League Wild Card race. New York Right Fielder Starling Marte hit into a double play in the bottom of the second that plated the first run of the game. Red Sox Center Fielder Jarren Duran responded with an RBI single to tie the game at 1. That was when the New York Mets offense came alive.
Center Fielder Brandon Nimmo added an RBI double in the bottom of the third while Catcher Luis Torrens and Shortstop Francisco Lindor both plated runners in the bottom of the fourth. Boston’s offense went quietly into the New York City night as they were unable to score again. Will the New York Mets be able to keep up their stellar level of play in tomorrow’s game?
New York Mets Play A Complete Game
New York Mets Starting Pitching Luis Severino put together another strong start as he continued his great season with the ballclub. He surrendered one earned run over seven innings of work and lowered his ERA to 3.84 on the year. New York’s bullpen picked up their starting pitcher by tossing two scoreless innings. Relief Pitcher Danny Young worked around a jam by getting perennial all-star Rafael Devers to ground out with runners on second and third. Phil Maton secured his third save of the year.
Looking Forward To Tomorrow Night’s Game
The middle game of this three-game set will pit New York Mets Starting Pitcher David Peterson(8-1, 2.83 ERA) against Red Sox Starting Pitcher Kutter Crawford(8-12, 4.12 ERA). Peterson has been spectacular this season and would be fourth in the league in ERA if he had enough starts to qualify. He will look to build upon what has been a great 2024 campaign tomorrow night at Citi Field.
Crawford has been inconsistent this year but has pitched better as of late. He is coming off a strong start his last time out against the Toronto Blue Jays. He surrendered two earned runs over 6.2 innings of work but took the loss as Boston’s offense was held scoreless. New York’s winning ways, coupled with the idle Atlanta Braves, has the Mets only half a game back of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. New York will look to win tomorrow and secure a series victory.
