Yoshinobu Yamamoto Finishes a Strong Rookie Season

Yoshinobu Yamamoto

A rookie season full of challenges and trials has come to a valiant end for one young pitcher. Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw his final pitch of the regular season on Saturday night versus the Colorado Rockies. He has made an undeniable impact on the Los Angeles Dodgers as he navigated his first year in Major League Baseball.

Though his regular season has ended, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be a vital piece in the Dodgers’ rotation this October. Battling injury and disappointing defeat at different points this season, Yamamoto has come out on top, proving to be one of the best in the league. Will Yamamoto continue his strong season in the playoffs, or will he buckle to the pressure?

During the Dodgers’ game 161, they took on the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Yamamoto took the mound for the 18th time this year. In a place where the ball travels well off the bat of many, Yamamoto was able to keep the game in his hands. The Dodgers took the game over Colorado with a score of 13-2.

He was able to go five full innings, only allowing two earned runs over four hits. Throughout his performance, he garnered six strikeouts while allowing no one to reach base on a walk. A strong outing from Yamamoto gives the bullpen more rest as they prepare to take many innings throughout the postseason.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s Return

Yamamoto faced a long stint on the injured list earlier this season. He faced an injury to his right tricep back in mid-June. This incident set him back two months as he was not able to return until Sept. 10 when he faced the Chicago Cubs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s injury was yet another hurdle to the starting rotation as his inability to pitch put them further in a bind. His return has been vital to the pitching staff as he is one of the only reliant starters in the rotation at this point.

Since returning to the mound in early September, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has strung together a few quality starts. As the Dodgers work to build up his innings, he is getting back into the groove of his typical lights-out ways. His start tonight has been the longest since his return, which is a promising sight for Los Angeles

Yamamoto’s Impact on Los Angeles

As the regular season is coming to a close, Yamamoto will finish out his rookie year with an ERA of 3.00. This season, he registered 105 strikeouts with just 22 walks. His final record of the year was 7-2.

As Los Angeles heads into October baseball, Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s presence on the mound has grown increasingly more crucial. Dave Roberts announced the starting rotation for the National League Divison Series. It will consist of Jack Flaherty, Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and Landon Knack. With Yamamoto throwing at the caliber he is, the Dodgers are in a good spot moving forward.
