Yankees Acquire Jazz Chisholm From Marlins

Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The New York Yankees have made a splash before the trade deadline, as they have acquired Outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins per Jeff Passan. Chisholm is a 26-year-old outfielder who spent his first five seasons in the MLB as a Miami Marlin. He made an all-star game appearance in 2022. Miami has been struggling all season long, so it was clear they would be sellers going into this much-anticipated trade deadline.

After a great start to the season, the Yankees have fallen back to earth and are now two games back of the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East. The addition of Chisholm bolsters their loaded lineup. The “Bronx Bombers” have been knocking on the door of the World Series since 2017. With Aaron Judge and first-year Yankee Juan Soto at the peak of their powers, the front office knows the time is now to go all in. How will this move work out for both sides?

Yankees Add Former All-Star

For Miami this season, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has hit .249 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI. He will be a huge boost for New York. Outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the Yankees have not had consistent production from their lineup. Chisholm gives them a reliable bat in the top half of the lineup.

The Yanks now have on paper the best outfield in Major League Baseball with Judge, Soto, and Chisholm. Their pitching staff has been much improved this season, but they will likely be shopping for more back-end help for their bullpen. To go on a deep playoff run, having a good bullpen is key.

Pennant Race Begins Now

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been on the doorstep of being in the World Series for nearly a decade. Since 2017, New York has made the playoffs six times, with three ALCS appearances. As a franchise with an MLB-leading 27 World Series titles, there are no moral victories for making the playoffs. Yankee fans expect them to be in the World Series. Despite having a flurry of talent and spending more money than any American League team, they haven’t won a World Series since 2009.

Right now the Yankees are 60-45 and two games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the division lead. They are still the number one team in the AL Wild Card race by 2.5 games. With 57 games to go, the Yankees look to catch the Orioles and avoid the wild card round.
