WWE Reveals Awesome Championship Design Change on 4/15 WWE RAW

WWE CCO Triple H announces title design change on Monday Night Raw

On the April 15th, 2024, edition of Monday Night Raw, the WWE revealed a new championship design and a rename for one of its titles.

Triple H Reveals New Design

On last night’s Raw, a segment began with on-screen Raw General Manager Adam Pearce already in the ring. Then, WWE CCO Triple H came out to the ring with his iconic theme song and there was a new title design hidden under a cloth in the ring. Triple H talked to the Montreal crowd and explained how they were still transitioning into a new era, and with a new era comes new representation.

He then called out the WWE Raw Tag Team Champions, the Awesome Truth, and brought them out to the ring. He shook hands with the newly crowned champions and then told them why they were out there. The Miz and R Truth won the tag titles at Wrestlemania 40 after claiming them during the 6-Pac ladder match.

He told the team that it was time for a change and that they deserved to hold titles that had meaning, and then he ripped off the cloth hiding the titles and unveiled the New Raw Tag Team Championships. This design was similar to that of the World Heavyweight Championship and Women’s World Champions, two belts that the company’s CCO re-designed and re-named in 2023.

Also, Triple H explained to them that these titles would no longer be the Raw Tag Team Championships, but instead the World Tag Team Championships.

Same Design Change for Smackdown?

It is likely that a design change will also happen on the April 19th Friday Night Smackdown. The WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, or A-Town Down Under, also won their respective titles during the 6-Pac match at Wrestlemania. Since we saw the Raw Tag Team Titles re-designed into the style of the World Heavyweight titles on Raw, we will probably see the Smackdown Tag Team Championships re-designed and re-named into that of the WWE titles on Smackdown.

New Design – Draft Implications

In previous years, it was a very difficult decision to have championships named after a specific show, especially during the time of the WWE Draft. There have been times when Champions have simply exchanged their titles for those of their representative shows, which in turn made those titles feel less meaningless and valuable.

In 2023, Triple H changed the Smackdown Women’s and Raw Women’s Championships into the WWE Women’s and Women’s World Championships respectively. It is great to see this change also happen with the tag team division, as it wouldn’t result in a title swap simply because of a team getting drafted to another show.
